His family's moving to Australia and can't bring him. He's wonderful and very very human like... good with other animals but unfortunately not with small kids as he'd probably jump on them to lick them and knock them over.

If we can't find someone, the alternative isn't very good :(

That's too bad about the kids. My family in Cavan take everything in, but the girls are younger, so it probably wouldn't work. Although they're not little or anything. My uncle might freak though if they got something else.

ah shite... he's IN Cavan too :(

How young are they? My niece is 13 and he's been fine with her since she was 9... anything older than maybe 5 or 6 would be ok as he's actually not very big.

It's neither me nor my decision :( I'm not even in the same country anymore. Fact is there is nobody close to us who can take him, even short term... we've taken the route of asking random people and it still seems to be coming to a dead end. They found people to take the German Shepherd and the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel no problem cos they're purebred.. but nobody wants the mongrel :( who's actually the best of the lot anyway :(

Beautiful dog! Somebody take him. Mongrel, or mutts are generally heathier (fewer congenital issues) and have better dispositions than inbred purebreds anyway, so I've always preferred mutts. I hope he finds a good home!

  • The rare time he's allowed in the house, there's one chair he's allowed on and it's black too... so he blends in... and he's so quiet cos he's so appreciative of being in the house that once or twice we've been heading to bed and almost forgot he was there... he won't even move :D

One time he was in the kitchen and came back into the sitting room and for some reason he couldn't look me in the eye and he looked REALLY guilty. I thought 'what's he done?' He kept looking at me and looking away and wouldn't look at anyone else and just went into a corner. I went into the kitchen and the fucker had pissed on my bag :D . It was just so cute though cos he knew he'd done wrong... and TO ME! So as soon as I went back to the sitting room, even though I was laughing, he just went straight to the door cos he knew he was being put out :D

Somebody please take him :) it was the only time he pissed on a bag or anything personal!

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Why can't they take him? It doesn't make sense to leave your pets behind.

My guess is the same reason I wouldn't be able to bring him to the US - quarrantine issues. Different rules/regs in each country for bringing animals in. But I'd bring him here to meet my girls if I could!!!!
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

Quarantine is only temporary though right? My understanding (which is oh so limited) is that it varies from country to country. Some countries only require paperwork from a vet, while others may require some quarantine time.

All I know is I would never leave my pets behind and I sure wouldn't take them to a shelter or put them to sleep because I wanted to move. I just wouldn't move, or I would take the time and money to get them relocated. That being said, I have no idea of the circumstances of these people so I am not judging.

Not yet... there are a couple of potentially slim options that I'm hoping for at the moment. But I have found some rescue homes that guarantee never to put them home... so if the worst comes to the worst :o

I don't know all the rules/regs either. I know friends of mine were considering moving overseas for work. She had to consider shipping her horse and her dog, both had to be quarrantined for a period of time if they did move them.

My fingers are crossed Helen! Keep us posted!
