by heavy movies, I mean not-comedies. :o I don't know, really just don't feel like thinking about very deep things currently. one of the latest movies I've watched was in fact High School Musical 2!! and I liked it better than the first one!

but fear not, I will watch No Country For Old Men soon enough. lol.

Do you mean Javier Barden? I like him to :) He looks really different from that movie, he is gorgeous and he has a very sexy voice ;)
:D I know... I think that's why I couldn't help but like him... simply cos it was Javier Barden. I was trying to explain to my bf and sister that... but they'd never heard of him so they didn't believe me. He doesnt smile so much in that film... and that's his most striking feature I believe.

That is an interesting viewpoint of the movie. I found him to be cold evil. Wonderfully portrayed and written to show how evil is really more powerful than good.

I will definately re-watch looking through Anton's eyes this time. Thanks for the good idea.

IMO, the coolest bad guy ever. I really love this movie. I agree, Josh Brolin was great too. Everyone was. Although they probably could have picked someone else to play Woody's character. I like Woody, but I think he should have been played by a little more of a tough guy.

yeah, he's kind of like the Terminator in human form. Nothing except death is really going to stop him.

i don't think he was evil. he wasn't good either. he was just totally amoral. that's the impression i got. i feel like evil would take pleasure in the pain and violence, and i don't think he did so much. he was just like a force of nature, an animal. he had a job and he just kept moving forward, heedless of the price or consequences. it wasn't so much about evil being more powerful, just about how this world is chaotic and there are forces in it that go far above and beyond any good human intentions, or even evil human intentions. after all, he takes out the "bad guys" as mercilessly as the good.
    and like that... he's gone.

Great film, but I really don't think there is supposed to be anything good at all about Anton Chigurh. He's implacable evil, the type of evil that Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) can't understand - think about the opening narration, where he describes the guy he sent to the gas chamber, who killed without remorse.

"The papers said it was a crime of passion and he told me there wasnt no passion to it...and he told me that he had been plannin to kill somebody for about as long as he could remember. Said that if they turned him out he'd do it again. Said he knew he was goin to hell. I dont know what to make of that. I surely dont."

It was a great movie up to the ending with the stupid monologue by Tommy Lee Jones..but you're right he is a cool bad guy

anything javier bardem does is gold, so unsurprising you like the character he plays. i liked him too, mostly b/c he was just soooo detached and cold, like he didn't have a care in the world, and i would think he didn't. all about chance, etc.......really good film.

btw - vicky christina barcelona was gooood. javier was as ever, excellent. there is a thread about it somewhere, but sadly didn't get much response.

    catch22 has a great point about how he's A-moral ;)

he has his morals... we just don't agree with them... but damn if he isn't a man to stick to his morals ;) . Even though he'd promised Brolin's character he'd SPOILER kill his wife.. he still gave her a chance... to leave it up to chance. A couple of times during the film, the words 'you can't stop what's coming' were said... and I like that. Cos, good or bad, you can't stop it!

Petrocs, I agree about the final scene... thought it should/could have ended with the scene before that... but it didn't annoy me. It's definitely a film I'm going to have to watch again... and probably again!

See... I saw him as like god and the devil in one body. Maybe like if the devil got a chance to play god for a while :D

I figured out what it is... he's simple! There's no game playing... he does what he does and that's it.. he also sticks to his word. Why can't all men be so bloody simple... without all the killing though :D there's no complications, no lies, no bullshit! Yep, that's it, that's what I like about him :)

I never realised such a simple character could be so complex to figure out :D

Yeah he is an evil guy in the sense of how he ruthlessly kills people... but you are right about the morals. In the book, once he gets the money, he gives it to the people who hired him to get it. He doesn't take it for himself and run off... he gives every last dollar back. He's just doing his job.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

i don't think he's *difficult* to figure out....i think he's just sooo different from people that we simply cannot fathom behaving as such. leaving killing up to the flip of a coin, to chance, etc....although isn't life, and death, really like that......? that's really what he's all about to me. most definitely amoral, although he most certainly at one time anyway, made the choice to get into his line of work....but otherwise.....just follows along. and most truly simply things are the work of very complicated minds. ;) beauty in simplicity.

    :) see... good guy!

In fairness, it wasn't Josh Brolin's to get away with... look at what he did in the beginning. Wouldn't give the guy water! He coulda saved him then and there.

And to the person who didn't like Woody in it  I thought he was great but then I tend to think he's great in everything. I love when he told the guy there was a floor missing in the building and yer man goes 'we'll look into it' :D

Not that HE'S difficult to figure out... but, considering how simple he is, I spent an awful long time trying to figure out what it was I liked about him... where as it was the simplicity all along :)
