well we figured that out quite early, that people don't like walking... so when a couple of people told us it was too far, we simply didn't believe them... even when they said 'no really, you'll be walking all night' we thought it was just them being dramatic

ok the drive up PCH is ONE of the tourist things i actually do quite often. Theres nothing like cruisin up the coast listening to some PEARL JAM on a nice day or.......even a cloudy one! gladd u enjoyed it out here, it DOES rock! :cool:

and we just kept strolling along thinking 'we must be getting close now' and finally we DID take somebodys advice to get the bus (which was em... interesting) and it took ages on the bus. We really enjoyed the walk though, so it was no harm done.

Oh another day, we were asking for directions and this guy told us to hang on and he got his employee to DRIVE us there :eek: . They really were very sweet and helpful

i LOVE doing that!
also have a GREAT city TO do that in for certain. i so enjoy when friends come and visit, and get to be a tourist with them too. now that the weather is warming up, shared weekends off, i can see hubby and i doing so more often.

not the city but sometimes the county.

my "city" if you want to call it is too small, so if i want to tour it i can just walk.

:eek: to be honest, anything involving Joyce sounds like my worst nightmare... especially joyce when you're drunk! so no, I never did but I'm not completely against the idea of one more excuse for a piss up

Actually, trying to READ Joyce when drunk seems like a really stupid idea. One day I'm going to tour a stand-up comedy show. My set will consist of reading Finnegan's Wake after 6 or 7 pints of Guinness.

I love Ottawa. It's a great city to be a tourist in. I just moved here a year and a half ago for school, but I still feel like a tourist. It's great when parents and friends come to visit because then we actually have an excuse to do everything. Aside from Parliament Hill and the Peace Tower, there's the locks (my favourite place in the city), skating on the Rideau Canal in winter and of course the mandatory beaver tails, the art gallery, the museum of civilization (sooo much cooler than it sounds), haunted walks, all the restaurants you could ever want in the Byward Market, specialty dessert shops and random indie/Quebecois video stores, a couple great record stores..there's soooooo much to do here, and with the weather getting nice again, I'm quite looking forward to my walks along the canal.

Travelling to all sorts of places made me realise just how many other places resemble utter dumps when compared to the big attraction back here at home, the Sydney harbour on a clear day.

So for the past 4 years I've spent a shitload of time just parking myself under a tree by the harbourside with a book, or out for a jog around some of the harbourside paths and trails. That's not to say I'll do the REALLY touristy things like climb the harbour bridge or get up to the top of Centrepoint tower or take the monorail, cos they're just plain overpriced and targeted at people with way too much money. But the nicer, cheaper things I do all the time.

For goodness sake, if you visit Sydney, fuck the cruise tours with wine and hors d'oeuvres. Just take the ferry which is much cheaper and grab a drink from the wharfside bar. And get me to show you around.
