  • how many yankees & red sox players to be on that list ?? i say at least 1 from each team ..

With 60-80 guys being named (former and current players), I'd say there is a great chance that every team will be represented on the Mitchell Report.

I heard one of the problems is that the report only goes back to around 2003, so we'll never know the real genesis of the "steroid era" which started in the 90's. But I could be wrong.

Also interested is the amount of actual proof they have on these 60-80 names, or if it's just speculation or guilt by association. I sense that there will be at least a few lawsuits against MLB and this commission by the union/players.

Well Giambi will definitely be named in the report. So there is at least one for the Yankees.

I read that the proof is receipt of payment, and phone records or something along those lines. I just hope B-Rob's not on it. Speculation is that he will be . . . alas . . .

    Think Clemens is on it?

I don't think this report is going to cause any great change or get any individual in trouble. The union ensure that. Selig is just trying to save some face.

good point, especially if their proof is that guy whose name escapes me now, but the one who worked in the mets clubhouse. for all we know, he could be naming names just for the sake of saving himself from further prosecution.

Good point, but we already have had one former player, David Segui, admit he bought steroids from Kirk Radomski, the Mets clubhouse guy. So maybe his accusations aren't baseless.

  • Is it just going to be players that were involved?

I heard a quick bit this morning on Mike & Mike on ESPN radio and what they said made sense to me - Is the report going to cover any ownership or league knowledge about it? We all know that some players used steroids or whatever, but did the league have first hand knowledge about it and turned a blind eye?

  • I watched Costas Now the other night where he interviewed David ortiz. They showed when he was with the twins. After seeing that, I now suspect him big time, though with a Red Sox exec writing the report, who knows....

We've all seen the after, here's the Before:

  • I just had a good laugh listening to WFAN. Caller asks if Mike Piazza will be on the list. The caller said he thinks Piazza is "as clean as the morning snow" and the host, a Met radio guy, said he "has it on good authority that Piazza is not on the list"

Hah! Since they started testing, Piazza has coincidentally fallen steeply. Remember when he was one of the top hitters in the game?

    2003 .286 11 HR's 34 Rbi
    2004 .265 20 HR's 54 RBI
    2005 .251 19 62
    2006 .283 22 68
    2007 .275 8 44

That and the guy had a muscle tear off the bone simply by stepping back away from a pitch. yeah, that happens to people all the time....
  • something just occured to me. reports have stated that Bud Selig has had a copy of the report as of no later than Wednesday. So Selig's presser at 4:30 will sem to most as an earnest, immediate response to the Report. Yet Mitchell made sure to take care of his pal Bud, and hook him up with an early, giving him time to prepare for his press grilling. Now, has Mitchell also been taking care of his other conflict of interest, the Red Sox?

it would make sense that each team would have copy of the list so they can immediately respond. of course that would be the sensible thing to do, but who knows if they have it.

it's been reported that only Bud has a copy. Don't you think if 30 teams had a copy we would already be hearing names?
  • First prominant name leaked on espn radio ... Roger Clemens ... no big surprise there.

Perhaps this is why pettite stepped up and signed now while he still could? Maybe if he waited till after the report the yanks might shy away?

While it's all a guessing game, it's been talked around the office here, how about this list of current players that would shock everyone if they're in this report since the speculation hasn't been there before:

    1.Jeter
    2.Rivera
    3.Schilling
    4.Ortiz
    5.Reyes

Or in terms of retired players
    1.Ripken
    2.Gwynn
    3.Boggs
    4.Hershiser(sp)
    5.Cone

in 1988 his playing weight was 122 lbs.
in 1990 it was 123 lbs.

I would not be surprised to see schill on the list. He is very competitive and i could see him trying to take any angle to get an advantage. Plus earlier in his career he had the injury bug. Steroids helps you heal faster i think.

I hope ortiz is not on it becasue he is a likeable guy, but he did seem to become a stud overnight when he arrived in boston. His numbers with the twins were not indicative of what came after he moved to the AL.

please, do some research and see what george mitchell has done for the world (ie - northern ireland peace process, u.n. task force, etc). i'm pretty sure he's not going to let his working for the sox sway the contents of the report.

I was about to say, I just can't see Mitchell throw away over 40 years of public service to lead a coverup for Theo Epstein or Selig.

So, what do we do with the names on the list. My main force of inspiration over the past 2 years is on there. I've never had such a force. He was All-Star in 2005 and 2007, do I just think it was the steroids. Does it matter how long he used them?

As a fan what am I suppose to do with this? Are GMs salivating looking for the discounted players?

some guys may have felt they had to take roids. Maybe all they've ever done is baseball and they felt everyone else was doing it and if they did not keep up with the jones's they would lose their job and perhaps it would be hard for them to find another.

some guys just took it to come back from injury quicker.

Not that either of these are right but when almost everyone else around you is doing it you might feel it is the norm and is expected of you in order to maintain a competitiveness.

Again i don't think it is right what they did but i could see how some guys may have rationalized what they were doing. i'm not writing many of these people off as bad people but they made some poor decisions that they obviously felt they had to make at the time.
