Stations Handling Pearl Jam Catalogue
How do most of your local alternative stations handle the PJ catalogue? Do they only play old PJ or do they play newer and lesser known songs? In San Francisco, Live 105 and the other alternative station, 104.9, only seem to play PJ songs from Ten or Vs. Today, I was driving from SF to LA and Live 105's 90's at Noon was about to come on. I figured I'd text in a request for Given To Fly, a song that I hadn't heard on Live 105 in 4 years. I figured I had a good chance they would play it since Madden is a PJ fan and loves the album, Yield. When 90's At Noon came on the second song played was Dissident. I was really pissed that Madden would replace my request for Given To Fly with Dissident. I almost texted the station that doing that sort of thing is bullshit. When the song ended, Madden came on and said "Right before the show started I got a text requesting this Pearl Jam song. I decided to give a double-dip of Pearl Jam, because more Pearl Jam is always better. It's Given To Fly." I was stoked. When the song ended Madden said, "I got a lot of feedback during the song thanking me for playing it. I believe it was Gavin in SF who requested it, so thanks man." I just wish that Live 105 would play more PJ songs from Vitalogy, Yield, No Code, the last three albums, and the rarities. If your local alt stations don't handle the PJ catalogue correctly tell them to straighten things out. I've already tried persuading Live 105. Some of you others in the Bay Area should try as well. Citizen Rick, you up for it?

Esther's here and she's sick?
hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks
What's up Gavin!
I call those guys all the time to talk PJ with them.
What do you have in mind? I'm game.
BTW...Pete Marr...this weekend was saying how half of his music collection is taken up by PJ studio albums and Boots.
Did I miss something? I thought it was established that he only liked early PJ... and wasn't that big of a fan.
There's also a classic rock station (92 CITI FM) that plays Pearl Jam now. Most of it is Ten stuff. Black/Jeremy/Even Flow/Alive are most common but this station does a good job of playing similar music around Pearl Jam. For instance if they might play Even Flow after playing Wicked Garden and before playing Spoonman.
I call on Mondays and Tuesdays (my days off) during 90's nooners either to request a PJ song or to thank them for playing one.
I always end up in a 2-3 minute conversation with the DJ about how great they were and still are...and they usually say that PJ's best quality nowadays is the live shows and the boots.
I think they are reluctant to play anything that isn't "mainstream" radio friendly (to them). The thing that gets me is...they all pretty much claim to be big fans...yet none of them are willing to play them in semi-regular rotation like they do the other bands of PJ's era (Nirvana, Soundgarden, AIC, Green Day, RHCP, NIN, Beasties, Rage, Weezer, Pumpkins...ect.).
BTW...All of a sudden Green Day's cover of the Beatles "Working Class Hero" plays relentlessly all day every day since it was released. Unlike "Reign or'e Me".
They tell me that Pearl Jam is by and large off the radar for today's young listeners (by their (PJ's) own doing)...but still a great band and one of the stations favorites.

Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead
decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter
he grew a beard.

If you go to the Audio/Video section of the site, there is a interview with Stone about halfway down the page, and the bottom interview on the page is Robert Plant, and well worth a listen.

In LA, I've only heard Pearl Jam played once. I haven't heard KROQ play PJ at all. The indie rock station, 103.1, played Given to Fly today. I was pleasantly surprised. 103.1 fm is an interesting station. They play bits of everything, just as long as it's not sell-out music/corporate trash. They play really good alternative-rock. Kind of reminds me of Live 105.
Just wanted an update on Live 105 and wanted to share how LA radio treats PJ. At least one of them played Given to Fly!
I'll have to give Live 105 a listen.
Edit: fyi...I used to live in Indianapolis and I had a good friend who lives there call me (this was maybe 2 years ago now) to tell my the local radio station, X103, was playing the entire catalog. They play every song A to Z (I'm pretty sure this was before the self-titled...or maybe it was a promo thing for it)....think it took an entire day or so.
Hey Gavin...I called Madden a few days after your first post during 90's nooners and he said the same old shit "great band but maybe past their prime" and how there isn't an overwhelming respons to play them like the other bands.
Meanwhile...he played the same Local H song that he plays every week and no PJ. I don't get it...even when they do promos for resurection sunday or a live promo for 90's nooners it seems like they mention every big band from that era other than PJ.
Even 104.9 an "alternative" station that has all these different promos that say we play all your favorite 90's music and mention all the staples...but not PJ.
I get so pissed...but what are you gonna do. There was a time when PJ played on all the different rock stations multiple times a day...and now pretty much nothing.
I guess this is what happens when you go into "hiding" for so many years.
Not to us of course...but to the general public.
Ahh man...I missed it! I just got back from vacation in Palm Springs.
It figures...the minute I leave Live 105 is playing PJ. I think you're right Gavin...all of our calls are paying off.
Keep up the good work Bay Area!
Saturday I heard (PM): Evenflow, WWS, and then.....Grievance (live)!
Sunday I heard (AM): Dissident, Betterman, and then ....Cropduster (live)!
I think the sets were requested or at least one of the songs for each set.
It was very wierd hearing Cropduster, and live at that, on the radio.
There is hope in the city by the bay!!!
BTW - For those not from the Bay area, 107.7 is one of the largest stations here and not some small station (like KFOG).
According to All Access, it's up 15 spots to #31 and had an increase of 138 spins last week.

I was gonna post about Hard Sun as well Gavin. I've been hearing it non-stop on Live 105.
Good for Ed. If they hurry up and bust out another album by the end of 2008...maybe they can take advantage of the momentum they are building (WWS and Hard Sun).
I think Ed hit a home run with this one!
Again, according to All Access, here are the top 5 stations that are leading with the most plays:
*WEQK-Albany - 31 Spins
*KVGS-Las Vegas - 30 Spins
*KITS-San Fran - 26 Spins (up from 7 last week)
*XM Radio-Satellite - 23 Spins
*KMRJ-Palm Springs - 23 Spins (They were one of the first to play the song...23 spins in it's first week)
