First dates?

I'm once agin getting back into the dating thing
and am curious as to what a good first date is

my thoughts are this

a movie is not a good first date cause you can't really get to know someone no conversation

dinner can be a bit stressful if you don't really get on too well

bars can be loud and encourage excessive alchol consumption

so what works for you guys and gals

peace

well it helps if the person you are supposed to go out with returns your calls after you set it up, start there. on second thought, maybe i shouldn't be giving advice here lol. the good thing about dinner is you get to talk and know each other.

i actually was thinking that but same as with a movie not a lot of interaction cause you are both taking your turns i do think it could be a good second date see how competitve they are and how they can laugh at themselves if they can that is

Go to a quiet bar on a weeknight. There are plenty of places where you can grab a table and a couple drinks and on a weeknight there's no pressure to stay out late.

And you give excessive alcohol consumption such a negative connotation...

You're saying that is a bad thing?

Alcohol is the only thing that can make a first date tolerable... and productive, in most cases.

Six months?!?! After reading Gallagher I was thinking this date took place in 1984 or something!! ;) Congrats on the anniversary! Let me ask you though, does Gallagher still charge extra to be within the range of getting watermelon seeds shot up your nose?!? I know that when I took my dad to see him about 15 years ago you had to pay more to get shit on. Never understood that premise.

pretty much all my dates have been in bars/pubs... that's just what we do over here. You'd rarely hear of someone going to dinner for a first date  that's like a nightmare. Besides there are plenty of different kinds of bars... some are quite romantic... lights dimmed, fire, lots of different snugs and secluded corners and stuff.

I like heading to the cinema first - it rules out that awkward silence I always seem to get myself into. You can tell a lot from a cinema date!

I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to go on my own to meet someone else, unless I knew their friends/my friends would be there. Just at the start anywho.

    I miss those dates :(

What about a couple of drinks in a bar and then if you like the way things are going suggest moving on to grab dinner??

If it's not going to well make your excuses and leave after the couple of drinks.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?
  • My best first date consisted of an early dinner (about half 5/6ish), a movie then pub and last train home.... t'was perfec! :D

You really have to pick the film wisely though... 12's is a good choice :D cos ya don't know him... he might be easily embarrassed, might not, who knows?

I find DRINK rules out the awkward silences :D . It's only recently that I've started going on kinda grown up dates, like the past 3 years or so... it used to ALWAYS be 'well I'm heading out with my friends Saturday night if ya wanna meet up and bring some friends along' :D so yeh, your first date turns into a bit of a party :D but the last few guys have usually been just me and him and drink

yeah, I remember the first date with one boy - we went to see "Inside I'm Dancing", some horribly depressing film about a dude in a wheelchair and his mate. Then after we had the most disgusting McDonalds ever (he wouldn't bring me to Eddie's), where he then proceeded to make fun of mentally disabled people. Just after that, I found a big lump of fat in a chicken burger and nearly got sick.
Jaysis, that dude was one bad date after another *shudders*

hahaha... you went back for more?

Ya think that's bad? I remember a first date where the film we wanted was sold out so we agreed on '24 hour party people' thinking 'it's steve coogan, it'll be funny'. Well it was just sex scene after sex scene and people running around naked almost constantly... GREAT first date if ya wanna get drink, popcorn and a porno :D

well, I was stoopid and kinda liked him (I don't even know why, I like my metalheads and he barely even heard of Greenday, was a GAA loving republican etc...) Looking back now, it nearly makes me heave. The icing on the cake was when he invited me over for dinner and cooked a roast chicken. I had to sit for 3 hours in the house while the chicken burnt and I felt like ripping my eyes out cos of the smoke... ew ew ew...

sounds pretty good. I always went with the "six pack at my house" or her house. Always seemed to do well, less formal plan, more .... to the point.

  • hmm casual dinner? like at a diner or something? with my last boyfriend our first date was actually a three hour meal at a fancy sushi restaurant! Um, lunch is good. Lunch on a weekend is good because you can either end it after lunch or if you're having fun go for a walk or something after. I've a had a few good ones like that. and if you walk around where there are record stores or something and you walk in it gives you something to talk about and you can learn about the person like that.
