Last night was my last night of my freshmen year (today is my last day), and I had 3 people over including myself just drinkin some 40s not being loud or anything, playing poker and watching TV....we were done around 2am...I get a knock on my door at 4am, I open the door and its 2 RA's and 3 cops, and they say they heard cans opening...i was like I have no cans (which was true)...and they ransacked my shit! I just finished packing and they went through everything tearing it up and found 1 more 40 and I'm getting charged by my school for alcohol possession which I can be kicked out of housing for next year, and charged by fairfax county for underage alcohol possession and drunk in public...WHAT THE FUCK??
thats a bitch... what school is it?
and why are you staying in university housing soph year? id get an apt. if possible and then its not a problem
Rule #236 of college life: If someone knocks on your door at 4AM, don't answer, it can't be anything good.
my dorm had peep holes... thats always nice... and if the party was already over they didnt have reasonable suspision to enter... so you could totally have just said "who is it?"... if they said "the cops" you could totally just tell them you know your rights and are going back to bed
I am in college, and whenever I drink I damn well know what I'm doing and the consequences that can go with it. If I got caught I wouldn't go, "hey man, it's college, you can't charge me!"
I'm not going to argue about the rationality of the law. Yeah, it's dumb. But the fact is there IS a law in place, and if you choose to not abide by it you can't complain when you get busted for it. How can anyone consider 18 and older underage you ask? Because the law says so. Deal with it. Or protest it intelligently if you want... but intentionally breaking the law and then whining about getting busted for it isn't protest, it's stupid.
No offense to the OP meant here.
agreed... based on the behavior of most underclassmen at my school id say theres a HUGE difference between the maturity of 18-21 and 21+... could just be that the mystique of drinking wears off once its legal and all your younger friends force you to make booze runs every day, but once youre 21 you dont really drink to get shit faced and you make smarter choices when you are drinking... of course that doesnt apply to everyone... but the law makes sense to me... just like driving at 16 (i can say this all in retrospect... i wouldve been pissed as a 16 y.o. if they changed the age to 18)

Of course you can complain, it's your right. Intentionally breaking the law and then saying how stupid the law is, is a way of protest, imo.
Either way, I think HailHailVitalogy isn't so much whining as he is shocked. The action of the police is too extreme, in my opinion and I'm sure in his opinion as well.
I don't know about your school, but here, since its a state school cops can't go through anything without a warrant. If they see something in plane site they can confiscate it or fine your or whatever. I'd definitely look into that though. That's pretty fucked.
Also, what a douchebag your RA was. I mean, a) you're right, its college they should be cooler than that. b) at least come talk to you first, don't just call the cops right on you for a little alcohol.
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.
i don't know what to tell you about the GM or their RA's however...
if you wanna know some secrets on how to deal with fairfax co. cops and how to talk your way out of getting busted or getting a ticket let me know, i talked my way out of it everysingletime.
oh i know, ive gotten my way out of my only 2 things in fairfax...theres a certain way to approach them....basically you have to agree with fairfax and let them know that you think they are badass

RA's are like cops... they were socially retarded when they were younger so they want positions of power to ruin everyone elses fun... sometimes you get lucky with one thats doing it strictly for the free housing and doesnt care about anything (like mine freshman year) but most of them are pricks
because a house or apartment in fairfax county is extremely expensive so I have to save up for it
gotcha... not familiar with the area... having an apt in college is key (ive done 1 yr in the dorms and 1 in my own place) so i hope ya save up enough soon!!

and for everyone whos talking about warrants...when you live on campus in any school you have to sign a housing agreement, if you dont sign it, you cant live on campus...if a cop or RA is outside your door and you refuse to open the door or take 5-10 minutes to open the door, you are only making you time with the cops/RA's worse for every minute that goes by...the place you are living in is not your place, it is the schools place

In my experience, there is usually 1 good RA for every 2 decent RA's, and the decent ones might be a little annoying, they definitely aren't bad like this. I've found that the real douche bag RA's are much more rare than the good ones.
Thank god I moved off campus this year (my junior year). Its much better living.

Got it. I had a feeling that the circumstances might be different regarding warrants and such.
Definitely a bummer. Hope this doesn't fuck up your life too much, or take up too much of your time.
Congrats on getting one year done though! I'll be done for the semester tomorrow or Thursday depending on when I get my papers in!

Awwww, I'm sorry. Who knew Mason was so rough on their dormies? I went there, heard of something similar but they never followed through.
I was shocked the first time I went to visit VA tech... bongs and illegal pets abound in those dorms. Kids walkin around with beer cases on their heads... it was hilarious.
Needless to say I stopped partying at Mason and headed down to tech on the weekends after that

anyway, good luck!
ever since the final 4 i heard the cops have been all over the park and they became extremely strict in order for them to get a good reputation, but its backfiring on them
and yes, ive been going to JMU atleast once a month havent been to tech yet

Sounds like Brown. They have their own campus police there and real cops aren't there at all. Apparently the campus police or whatever don't give a shit about anything and people just walk around with open beer bottles and other drinks everywhere. A friend of mine told me that someone on his floor used to use beer bottles to keep his door open.

JMU is also fun....but GO TO TECH Seriously! Good times to be had...and Radford is right down the street if you feel like slumming it. (j/k)
I don't know what it is about the cops on campus. I used to live not 4 miles from campus (behind the trader joes) and I couldn't find a cop to save my life if I needed one. That neighborhood sucked too.
Anyway... go to tech Where do you hang out these days? Its been a while since I've hit a Fairfax city bar.
Edited to add: Sorry, I didn't do the math, I guess you aren't 21 yet if you are a rising sophmore? congrats on getting the first one outta the way! A good friend of mine is graduating on saturday, after 11 years of part time college

honestly, fairfax has gotten so strict that you cant really do much in it unless your 21, even if you are, they are arresting people left and right for being drunk in public
the only bars in the area is buffalo wing university (which i will be working at starting in the fall) and theres this irish pub, both on 123 (ox road).....we usually just drink in the dorms or a few of my friends have houses that we have small parties at.......hopefully next spring ill have a house somewhere down roberts road

I can't imagine what the security or even police would say if they knocked on my door right now. Place is a total dump. Beer bottles and empty coke cans EVERYWHERE. It also smells of smoke.
I wouldn't get in shit for it though, they'd just think I was a tramp Good ol' british drinking laws.
