It's fuckin college man!!

Last night was my last night of my freshmen year (today is my last day), and I had 3 people over including myself just drinkin some 40s not being loud or anything, playing poker and watching TV....we were done around 2am...I get a knock on my door at 4am, I open the door and its 2 RA's and 3 cops, and they say they heard cans opening...i was like I have no cans (which was true)...and they ransacked my shit! I just finished packing and they went through everything tearing it up and found 1 more 40 and I'm getting charged by my school for alcohol possession which I can be kicked out of housing for next year, and charged by fairfax county for underage alcohol possession and drunk in public...WHAT THE FUCK??

you won't lose your housing next year over a few bottles of beer. the school will make you pay a nice little fine and that should really be the end of it. the fact that they had the cops come is just ridiculous. do you think one of your neighbors called the RAs to complain about noise?

i wouldn't sweat it though... i've been written up in college a handful of times for drinking underage on a dry campus.

 they heard a can opening? Do you live in Tehran by any chance? :o This thread is a little bit hilarious and a little bit terrifying. Wow! Good luck and hope they don't take it too far.

That sucks man. If you were in your dorm room how can you be charged for public drunkenness? I mean, it's not like you were drunk and walking the streets. I would think they'd need more reason to be able to search your room than just "hearing cans open", but then again, I don't know about your school's policy on things like that.

the idea of getting into shit for drinking in college is alien to me since the drinking age here is 18. Fuck, I've got 5 empty bottles on my desk right now, I once answered my door to the 7ft tall, 3ft wide security guard who looks like a fat Evander Holyfield with a joint IN my mouth and a bottle in my hand and he just told me to keep the noise down.

Must suck to be under 21 in America :D

EDIT: I'll be sure to have a drink for you on thursday when I finish my exams and I'll also have finished my first year :) Hope it works out ok. If they really bust you then that's fucking ridiculous.

Yeah, makes you wonder why they evidently station police officers at every door with their ears pressed to it listening for the sound of escaping gas. It's pathetic. Don't they have better things to spend police time and money on?

and no my neighbors would never call the cops on me...we used to all drink last semester with each other

The idea that you can legally have a family before you can have a beer is scary.

What if you've ordered 4am pizza from a turkish guy who sells out of the back of his Ford Transit?

Actually yeah, don't open to him either.

Exactly. Where I went to school, the RA and cops would stop by occasionally to make sure we were drinking and getting stoned. They beat the living crap out of the nerds who were studying...

That's so fucked up. Any idea who called the gestapo on you? The legal drinking age in the US is ridiculously high.

Yeah, that's definitely a stroke of bad luck right there. But whenever you drink under the age limit, you KNOW there's a risk. Yeah, everyone does it, but even so, you need to understand and accept the fact that if you're doing something illegal, you may get caught and you'll have to pay the consequences.

If ya can't do the time, don't do the crime, as they say.

I guess. It's not really in the same league as underage drinking though.

Once you let them into the room, there is no need for a search warrant. Also, by living in the dorms you agree to live by a certain set of guidelines and rules which I bet are outlined in a housing agreement you sign before moving in.

Underage drinking? They're in college. How can anyone consider 18 and older underage?

It's completely ridiculous. Furthermore, police coming into your dorm room because they heard cans opening is fuckin' insane!

I am in college, and whenever I drink I damn well know what I'm doing and the consequences that can go with it. If I got caught I wouldn't go, "hey man, it's college, you can't charge me!"

I'm not going to argue about the rationality of the law. Yeah, it's dumb. But the fact is there IS a law in place, and if you choose to not abide by it you can't complain when you get busted for it. How can anyone consider 18 and older underage you ask? Because the law says so. Deal with it. Or protest it intelligently if you want... but intentionally breaking the law and then whining about getting busted for it isn't protest, it's stupid.

No offense to the OP meant here.
