    Burnt toast and a tea.

the burnt toast acts like/is charcoal and pulls the alcohol into it. A filter. The tea does some other shit that I cannot explain. This is chemistry, and it works.

    hmmm, interesting

1 question......Since a hangover is caused by the lack of alcohol in a persons bloodstream, how does burnt toast pull the alcohol out of your system?

    Just wondering..

  • ain't gonna help you now, but here's what i do when i know i'm going to drink a lot:

before i go out, i buy a big bottle of gatorade. i drink half of it and take 2 tylenol's (or whatever you prefer). then i drink to my hearts content. when i get home, i finish the rest of the gatorade and take 2 more tylenol's and go to bed. 98% of the time, i wake up in the morning without a headache. my stomach may feel a bit queasy, but that's easier to deal with than a headache.

A hangover isn't the result of a lack of alcohol in the system. The shitty feeling is a result of the metabolic breakdown of ethanol into an aldehyde. That aldehyde is what causes the shitty feeling.

Everyone has "what has worked for them", but there are myths, urban legend and then there is science.
As mentioned before, there is no "cure". You can greatly reduce the effects of a hangover buy drinking plenty of water the night before and taking a B-complex tablet. Vitamin B chemically binds to the aldehyde that is created by ethanols metabolism.

When you hear of people going blind because they drink methanol (wood alcohol) it's because the body metabolizes that into the most simple aldehyde (formaldehyde...which also is a carcinogenic agent). When ethanol is "broken down" it retains an additional CH2, whereby making it a more complex aldehyde, and one the body can naturally metabolize (it just takes some time. Vitamin B speeds this up!). It is this aldehyde that makes you feel shitty. In fact, a common treatment for the consumption of methanol is ethanol. It's true. What happens is that the influx of EtOH (ethanol) causes the addition of an extra CH2 to the toxic methanol. You won't go blind, but you will really feel like shit the next day. :D

    Vitamin B-Complex is your friend.
  • down some pedialyte before bed. stay away from pills. alcohol greatly increases the toxicity of acetaminophen and can badly damage your liver. Exercise will make you feel better faster, easier said than done on a nasty hangover.

Forget all these quick fix morning-of remedies. Just drink 2 full glasses of water before you go to sleep and you won't have the hangover to begin with. A hangover is about one thing: dehydration. This always works for me, no matter how drunk I am.

Yeah, I always tell myself that I'm going to drink water either throughout the night, or at least try to cram in as much as I can before crashing to sleep, but more often than not, I crash to sleep before I can get to the water.... :P

I have tried this lots of times and always with the same result - I throw up. The water just sits in my stomach or something and after I go to bed I'm up shortly afterwards throwing up. gatorade, or sprite work a little better so I don't get pasty, and the next morning if it's a really bad hangover it's some kind of salty leftovers and gingerale, or McDonalds and a shake - I need that salt/sugar in my system.

Some really good suggestions in here to try, will be trying the vitamin b for sure.

After a wild bachelor party last night, here I am sitting on my couch trying to not to move because I my head is pounding. I took my usual 2 Advils and a couple of glasses of water which doesn't seem to be working, and I thought it would be a good idea to see what other people do the day after.

And you can't say "don't drink", because that's boring.
I did not read what everyone wrote but either smoke som weed or drink a beer. You will feel great hahahahha!...................really.

You gotta get your body re-hydrated - so yeah - plenty of water and I usually eat a lot of protein (just seems like my body craves it)...and SLEEP. Hope you feel better soon.

That's the only way. Plus 4 advil, not 2.

4 Advil, tons of water, protein, and sleep. There is no easy way out. You just have to pay your dues.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Vitamin B-complex with water before you go to bed will equal a much smaller, less shitty feeling hangover the next day.

PM me if you want the biochemistry behind it.

I'm so going to try this. I don't get sickly anymore with my hangovers, but I'm retarded tired (and retarded mentally) and lethargic. Will your method help that?
  • SiDSiD Posts: 76
OK, If you NEVER listen to me ever again forever, I have some experience with this . It was taught to me by my father a few years ago. IT WORKS !!

    1. Wake Up

    2. Go to the fridge

    3. Mix 1 Can Beer with 1 can tomato juice

    4. Drink it

    Works every time !!

Been there and done that with "red beer." It only works if you drink a shit load of beer. And that's hair of the dog, and that definitely "works" but the day after that.....when you go to work.....you are sooooo fucked.

Yep. You'll be mentally "sharper" and much less lethargy.
It is by no means a cure, but you will feel better and get over feeling crappy MUCH faster.
The B-vitamins will help rid your system of the aldehydes that make you feel shitty. In fact, that stuff they sell "Chaser" is predominately B vitamins.
When I was an undergrad I learned about this in my molecular genetics class.
It does work, but that doesn't mean you can drink until 3 crash (without drinking water) and be up at 7 feeling like a million bucks.
My problem is that when I'm "that drunk", I often forget to take my B-complex with lots of water before I pass out. LOL! :D

Oh well. Try it next time and post back here. I think you'll be surprised.

I know exactly what you're saying. I sometimes drink until dawn, and when that happens, I already know there is nothing that can cure my variety of hangover. But, (like tonight) where I've had dinner, and I'm drinking, it's 8:00pm and I plan on drinking until 10:30 or 11:00, I want a way to make me feel "good" when I have to wake up at 7:00am. Is that so much to ask? I'm totally going to try the Vitamin B thing. I love it. And, on those nights that I'm too fucked up to remember to take the Vitamin B, then that's my own fault. I knew better. I don't have any Vitamin B in the house, but believe me brother, I'm going to get some. I'm 33, and I love to drink, and this shit is catching up with me. I hate working the 9-5 job with the 7-12 lifestyle.

    Thanks for the tip.

I don't drink wine. Gives me a heart burn. But I definitely drink too much, I know this. I'm a hard alcohol drinker. Mostly vodka. However, the wife and I are drinking rum tonight, which always gives me a worse hangover. Rum went with the dinner we prepared. I can't help it. "B-Complex" it is! Can't wait to try it. :)

From Modern Drunkard Magazine's 86 Rules to Drinking:

Rule #35: Learn to appreciate hangovers. If it was all good times, every jackass would be doing it.
He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share, his key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere.
  • never been hungover...hahahahaha at all of you

No seriously my worst hangover was a very slight headache that went away after a glass or two of water. I do bring a bottle of Gatorade to bed with me though after drinking. I usually have a dry mouth when I wake up. I also crave greasy dorm food.

After drinking, I used to even feel really really good the next morning. Like wake up at 8am and feel completely energized(never happened to me unless it followed a night of drinking) It was really weird and happens to my friend too.

I think as I am getting older, 20, the hangovers are going to start rolling in a little bit more

    Enjoy it while it lasts!!
When I was in college I would drink until 2-3am, get up and be in class at 8 and feel fine.

Keep drinking as much water as you can for two or three hours after you wake up. If I drink 7 or 8 glasses over that period, I usually feel fine by afternoon. The only reason you have a headache is because your brain is dehydrated.
  • first of all Excedrin works the best as far as pills go. next go get something greesy like pizza. Then go have a beer....gets you back to normal. At least does for me

I thought Excedrin was best till I tried BC Powder. So BC Powder, over-easy eggs, orange juice and most importantly - marijuana.

After drinking 11 beers and 4 shots last night I drank 2 glasses of water, took an Advil and a multivitamin. Then when I woke up at like 7AM today to take a leak I repeated the same and then slept for another couple hours and I must say I feel like a million bucks today!

This is my new regiment for drinking. I couldn't have done it without you guys!
