Hmmm maybe she did mean the one in LA and I clearly shouldn't be commenting on a hotel I have never seen :o but since you think it is dodgy, JJJ then yes perhaps it is to be avoided.

Ok! Ok!! NO CECIL ANYWHERE!!! :D
    NOPE!!!

I got a really good deal at the Radisson for 7/10-7-13, only about $89.99 a night or so, but it was for online booking only

The Travel Lodge on Pico blvd in Santa Monica is a good option as well...its 1/2 between the gig and the ocean.

Thats where the Black Keys stay!
    :)

No, no, I was looking at The Hotel Sylvia in Van. The room is about the size of a broom closet but it looks like a nice spot though. :)

Very nice area overlooking English Bay and right next to Stanley Park! lots of great places to eat and shop on Robson street right around the corner. :)

Yes, The Cecil in LA, starting to sound like a no go.

If I have to live in a novel for 3 nights Bukowski aint what I had in mind! :D

Go watch "Barfly"...that will be a good decision-making aid!

My advice would be to get a hotel/motel in the Santa Monica area. There's tons of touristy shit to do in Santa Monica (promenade, pier, beach) and it's walking distance to Venice Beach which is another big tourist attraction. Then you can take a cab into Hollywood and see all that shit and come back to beautiful Santa Monica without having to stay in some seedy Hollywood motel.

As far as downtown.. not much to do there, I wouldn't go there... and definitely stay away from the eastern side of downtown because it's full of homeless guys and herion addicts looking to mug you or worse

I'll look into it and see if I can find you some good motel deals that are safe, but still in a good spot. Believe me and SEN when we say that dangerous out here is a LOT more dangerous than probably anything you'll encounter in Australia!

Thanks Trails, we're just checking out Santa Monica now. :) It appeals to me on account of the song! :p As good a reason as any! :D

Ok, well I'm not so worried about the dangerous on account I've stayed in some REALLY dodgy places around the world, that hostel in Montpellier..... well you don't wanna know! EEK!! And that one in Brussels!!!! DOUBLE  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm a checking out Santa Monica. Thanks! :)
