Hope I get to meet you while you're here! :D

Hey Seattle Folks - I think we can manage a Fado's trivia night if Jeanie is up to it.
Walking can be a real trip

Seattle is my favorite place on earth. Check out Ballard while you are there, on Ballard Ave itself for tons of live music in the pubs/taverns. West Seattle has Alki Beach.. a kick ass breakfast or lunch can be had at Alki Cafe. Anywhere along the west side of West Seattle is fun, too.. you can get down to the beach at many places. Lincoln Park is a nice walk and has a staircase that goes down to the beach, if you don't mind the hike back up!

I'm just a frequent visitor to Seattle, so these are the things I've found enjoyment in while out there.. Not a local, though I'd love to think of myself as a seachild!

    Peace and have a blast!

Thanks sue, that all sounds excellent! :)

Seriously it's not a good tour?

    the history is really cool.

but it was almost like i had heard the tour guides words word for word on a history channel special once. and being down there really didn't inhance anything.

i believe my wife is ordering some books on seattle history...looking forward to them.

    Esther's here and she's sick?

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks

Excellent!! Sounds like my kind of thing. I remember a girlfriend telling me about it years ago. That she'd done the tour when she was over there. I'd completely forgotten about it till you mentioned it. Bad tour guide aside, I think I have to do that and for $15 bucks I can put up with a crappy commentary. :)

I am not a fare judge or a fare jury on the L.A. bit.
Basiclly all I know about L.A. is shitty stuff.
That doesn't mean it is written in stone to be shitty.
It means that driving a 53 foot trailer through L.A.
flippin blows quite a bit, exciting, nerve-racking, thrilling, tiring.
Confusing shit trying to find an address in that shit hole.

Jeanie, in the smaller hours of the early morning you may find yourself in the worst parts of the city, which can be a good time when watching all the stupid shit that's going on.
Just becareful and don't go lookin for trouble and you'll be fine.
I just don't see Jeanie @ 3am lookin for trouble in some darkened alley-way of L.A.

I'm planning my trip and I need any little tidbit you might be able to impart.

Travellers and locals please apply here! :D

I'm definitely needing some help in the LA department, Seattle is coming along nicely but every little bit helps.

Anybody know any good hostels/hotels? Anywhere I should avoid?

HOW does one get to Disneyland? :p

What's a must see and a must avoid at all costs? :)

Any help is much appreciated thanks. :)
Vacationed in LA in March, some things I really enjoyed, Universal Studios, Santa Monica and the pier, the tonight show, the weather. We rented a car so if time is an option, San Diego Zoo and San Diego and Santa Barbara. I could have done so much more but time is limited and the traffic is a nightmare, so getting around can take some time. Planning on going back next March, its just an awesome place.

    Fado's Trivia night? Dare I ask??? :D

To quote Albert Einstein, "To get to know a country, you must have direct contact with the earth. It's futile to gaze at the world through a car window."

I love walking. However, Seattle has a lot of hills, so sometimes I cheat and take escalators up the hills through the downtown buildings. :p

Fado's Trivia is on Wednesday nights. I was introduced to it by jamainiac and sennin. It's fun. Sometimes we win beer! Plus, there's a band that plays afterwards that can do a pretty good acoustic Porch, Black and Down.
Walking can be a real trip

I love LA, been many times over the years, Venice is a must, Santa Monica is also beautiful. Hire a car and go to the mountains, Big Bear and lake Arrowhead has stunning scenery. And if you love amusment parks ,Universal Studios and Magic Mountain are great fun.

Excellent stuff folks, thank you. :)

Wouldn't do it here so I'm hardly gonna do it there! ;)

If you want to get a hotel in downtown Seattle near the pike place market, pioneer square (underground), etc. you could check out the Sheraton downtown (4 star). I used priceline.com and the "name your own price" feature and got a room there for $110. You can also get hotels in Lynnwood about 30 minutes north of Seattle for much cheaper than downtown.

Here are some fun places to check out in walking distance to downtown:
    Pike Place market
Pioneer Square (Fri & Sat night - lots of music & bars for one cover)
    Seattle Aquarium/waterfront

Not too far off, you can get to the University of Washington and rent canoes to explore Lake Washington and the Arboretum from the water. Get there early - they run out of canoes quickly on nice days. This is one of our families favorite things to do in the summer.

We have some beautiful mountains, rivers, hikes, etc. if you like outdoors. Let me know if you want any specifics on cool places to go hiking, etc.

Hope you have lots of fun in our fair city :)
