What's your definition of an alcoholic?

I think this is a very interesting question... just curious of your thoughts...

    Someone who cannot do anything or go anywhere without drinking. People that need to drink when they get up in the morning.

    Although I do know people who I consider to be alcoholics that are very successful at their jobs during the day, and then as soon as they leave they start drinking everything goes to shit and their personal life and their family is falling apart. They manage to keep it together so they can keep their job but they are past caring about the rest.

    When it effects your health and/or you alter life plans because of alcohol.. nothing wrong with a few drinks after dinner or before bed.

    I have a step uncle who's an alcoholic.. He used to put vodka in his cereal before work. :eek:

    this was my grandfather, alcoholic, he kept his business life together-successful lawyer and everyone in town thought he was a great guy but things at home were a whole other situation..............

    Some of your posts here are the extreme. Take me for example. I always have a drink with dinner usually two everyday. Either wine or beer. By the text book I would be one. Maybe so but thats what I do. I love a drink after work or while I am making dinner. I don't crave it in the afternoon or morning. I don't need more, unless its the weekend ;)
