jack's drumming is so tight, the guitars are so crunchy and clear, and ed's vocals are sweet
live, it has none of the above
probably the song that has the biggest gap for me bewteen loving the studio version and getting nothing from live versions
"I'll tell you what: If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music. You don't have to use it all at once, but it's there." - Neil Young
Yes definitely ,I love the recorded version of "Corduroy"As you say the slower version is the best.
I also prefer the early versions of RITFW done so slowly live eg.Pink Pop 92'!!
The slow burning of the intro, the distinct basslines, Ed's delivery. It was just recorded perfectly.
While its still great live and will always be a staple, I just prefer it slowed down a bit. They race through it live.[/quote]
I actually like a lot of songs better live, mainly because of MIKEY'S solos.
Even Flow (Mike's solo is awesome- although I do like the video version the best)
Black (Mike's solos are top notch)
Oceans
Porch (I like studio but I LOVE it live and b/c of Mike's solo)
Release
Breath
Daughter (I love the tags)
WMA
Better Man (I love the tags as well)
Sometimes
Who You Are
In My Tree (live between '96-'97 )
Red Mosquito
Mankind (Stone sounds nice)
Brain Of J.
Wishlist
Gods' Dice
Light Years
NAIS (Mikey's solo)
Of The Girl
Grievance
Sleight of Hand
LBC
Help, Help
1/2 Full
Bushleaguer
All Or None
Severe Hand
Army Reserve
Parachutes
Inside Job
Those are just of my head but I probably have more...:o
oops forgot to list songs off Lost Dogs. oh well.
I Got Id is # ! for sure. They created something profound with that one in-studio, got me listening for greatness as a life-long fan, only to hear them speed through the song without much of of raw intensity of feeling in concert.
Corduroy is # 2. For the same reasons.
SOLAT is the only other example I have.
Other songs mentioned here by freaks for Pearl Jam like me, I disagree with whole-heartedly.
Sleight of Hand is so much better live. So is Parting Ways, Thumbing My Way, etc.
Oh yeah, Better Man, in most cases not as good live as album. Live In My Tree was awsome before the slow-down of 03. WMA was perfected, IMO, in `08.
Good evening San Diego, I'm Ron Burgundy
And I'm Veronica Corningstone, Tits McGee is off tonight...
really footsteps what don't you like about this one live ,i've only seen it live once way back in 94" but i seem to remember that stone played the whole song on an electric and ed didn't play harmonica ...

i think because Eds voice sounds cleaner on the studio version. Im not a big fan of the harmonica at all. one thing i love about it live is the feeling of the song actually being played but i prefer the studio.
~~~~~~ALWAYS HAVE A GOOD TIME~~~~~~
I am a man, I am advanced.....I am the first man to borrow Stone's leather pants!
I just think it sounds very average live.
Maybe slow it down 10%???
The ones that they haven't played live. I like those studio versions better. But thats just me.
Those were definitely better years ago when played by their original drummer!
They're far too happy live.
