This must be one of those deals where the winner is determined by on line voting. That makes it easy for a group to flood the system with votes. I was just happy to see Chapel Hill get mentioned on the list.

I voted for Louisville, KY. I agree Valdosta was pretty weak.

    totally agree

when i saw Valdosta had won, i immediately went to espn.com to find the voting results. Can't find them anywhere. I really can't believe they out voted major cities like NY, LA, Chicago and Boston. Or even Green Bay for that matter cuz the whole state of Wisco probably voted. I think it's a farce.

Every summer, ESPN does these dumb countdowns or what not. Definitely lame.

  • I try to watch SC every so often. But shit like this is just ridiculous. last time I tried watching it was "Who's Now". Between that garbage, and their constant promoting of their own properties like its the Super Bowl, I just can't bear to watch. Shit like the X Games. If they didn't air it, it wouldnt even whii Sportscenter. But since they air it, they lead with it. Like when they had Nascar. It was the top story. Now they don't have it, no longer top story.

Yeah this is really annoying. How can you choose one town when there is so many citys with mulitple championships. This is dumb I tell you!!!

ha nascar! shouldnt be any sort of story let alone the lead... they were talking today about how the tires were only lasting 12 laps on the last race... who gives a fuck about tires? how is this a sport? glorified go karts!

glad im not alone in thinking this whole thing is bullshit... they waste valuable time that could be spent covering sports stories with these stupid montages and interviews and then the result is just as disappointing

um... they do have nascar, yesterday's race and the next 5 races are on espn, and almost all of the nascar nationwide series races are on espn 2

The thing I love most about sportcenter is when Barry Melrose comes on to talk hockey! It's hilarious. Does he have any idea that NO ONE CARES??? "And now we bring in Barry Melrose" and he's all smiling and ready to talk hockey....as thousands flip the channel to a South Park rerun. The fact that he is so oblivious to it is hysterical.

"Well I'll tell ya I don't think the Islanders got the best of this trade...."

Thanks for that info, Barry. I'll be thinking about that while I'm watching the Steelers game.

More than anyone in the entertainment business, Barry Melrose benefits from the old "ignorance is bliss" adage. He'd probably hang himself if he knew we didn't care. Poor Barry......

"To the people saying "high school sports don't matter" ... where do you think the athletes that the big cites pay to win titles come from? I would think that most professional athletes played high school sports. So I guess high school sports "do matter." Ask Boston how J.D. Drew is doing. Or ask the Cowboys about Jay Ratliff. [Don't forget] VSU Blazer and five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Jesse Tuggle."

What a load of shit, not only do other towns have professional teams but other towns have produced more, bigger, and better athletes.

"high school sports"? why pluralize it? the only thing they focused on was football... how is that titletown USA?

theres been places that have won multiple titles in multiple sports with greater talents... i figured chicago would have it because of the bulls dynasty, '85 bears, world series sox, the success of the chicago fire... or maybe boston because of the pats and celtics and red sox

Write a letter to ESPN then. Who gives a shit who was picked. I didn't expect to see GB in the top part of the list. The whole thing was silly and like I said who cares. It's only ESPN.

It should have been either Boston, N.Y. or L.A.!
    Boston for the Celtics titles.
NY for the Yankees title history.
L.A. for the success of Lakers and UCLA.

    NY: Yanks 26 titles, Knicks 3 titles(i think it's 3), Giants/Jets 4 SB, Rangers ???? (not a hockey fan)

LA: Lakers 14 titles, UCLA basketball a lot of titles with Alchindor and Walton era, Dodgers a couple titles?

ESPN makes me laugh so much with this stuff. I didn't vote either.

I think it was half and half with Cub and Brewer fans. I was next to a couple of Cub fans on third base side and we all had a great time. They told us Milwaukee has Chicago beat on tailgating. lol

Tomorrow should be fun too. :)

Sorry about the comment b4. All in good fun. :D

    Haha...thanks.

I believe the Bears had more titles before the Super Bowl era (NFL/AFL merger)started. So yeah, Chi-town should be in the mix as well.

By the way, who are the Fire? I mean what sport are they in?

Chicago people are so fucked in the head. LOL

I lived in Appleton for 4 years. When I moved back here, it was so nice get away from the Packers starter jacket wearing cheesers, ya knoow?

Although, with all the shit that's been happening already, and with the way the baseball season is going, Chicago may be in shambles come October.

Back to the thread topic, not that I care, but was Titletown about crowning the city with the best championships/success or about the town with the most passionate fans and all that jazz? Either way, they got it wrong.
