Starting with now: TB Lightning makes a deal
The team that finished last in the NHL in 2007-08 continued the off-season overhaul Friday night by dealing defensemen Filip Kuba, Alexandre Picard and a 2009 first-round draft pick to the Ottawa Senators for restricted free-agent blue liner Andrej Meszaros.

It's hard to be happy after you lose (the bar I was at for Game 7 '05 was like bein at a fuckin wake)....but man it's a fun ride....drunk three nights a week for two months straight
I don't know when the Wings will start to slip...they are def THE model for all NHL teams. Scouting, development, coaching and management are all top notch. And because they're so good, they have no problem getting guys like Hossa to sign there. Funny...their fans are so spoiled that they dont' even have their own thread here, and if I'm not mistaken, they were having trouble filling Joe Louis last year.
they went out in what...the 1st round?
against
huh
THE NEW YORK RANGERS!
you know what must REALLY suck for the devils?? they got a brand new arena which is usually even emptier than the last one and is always taken over by Ranger fans during their meetings.
Hey kyle, the problem with their attendance is that Detroit has a bad economy I guess and that area isn't so great supposedly from what I've read...I dunno.

On different note, I just read that the Habs are going to have their own outdoor game this year. Cool. Im not sure though if those frenchies will be able to take it.....Edmontons -25 C Outdoor game was insane and their goalie had to wear at toque......;) .....:p

Vancouver Canucks will retire Trevor Linden's jersey on Dec. 17.
VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks made official Thursday what many have suspected since the final moments of last season: they're going to retire Trevor Linden's No. 16 jersey.
The big event will take place Dec. 17 at GM Place.
"It's going to be exciting," Linden said Thursday at a press conference to formally announce Trevor Linden Night. "I'm going to be a bit nervous but sharing that with our fans, my friends, my family and my teammates, or ex-teammates, will be very special."
Linden was made aware of the club's intentions several weeks ago when Canucks CEO Chris Zimmerman told him what was in the works. He admitted he was both humbled and grateful.
He will join Stan Smyl as the only other Canuck to have his jersey raised to the rafters. Smyl's No. 12 was retired in 1991.
The late Wayne Maki's No. 11 had also been taken out of use, but was brought back into circulation when Mark Messier joined the Canucks in 1997. That number hasn't been used since Messier left Vancouver in 2000.
Linden spent 16 of his 19 NHL seasons in a Canuck uniform. He was drafted second overall in 1988 and was team captain for seven seasons, leading the Canucks to the 1994 Stanley Cup final where they fell to the New York Rangers in seven games.
"To play for this great franchise as long as I have feel very lucky," Linden said. "And to play in this province and city was a real honour."
Defenceman Mattias Ohlund, one of Linden's closest friends on the team, feels the jersey retirement is a great tribute to a great warrior.
"It's great for him and well deserved," said Ohlund, Linden's long-time roommate on the road. "He was a big, big part of this team for a long time and I'm so happy for him.
"It's going to be a fun night."
Ohlund and Linden often car-pooled to practice and to the airport so they bonded in many ways over the years despite their age difference. Linden is 38, Ohlund 32.
"We all know what kind of hockey player Trevor is but he's a great person with a big heart," added Ohlund. "He makes everybody around him feel comfortable."
Willie Mitchell was a teammate of Linden for two seasons and an ardent foe before that during his days with the Minnesota Wild. Mitchell has nothing but respect for the Medicine Hat native.
"What's not to say about him?" Mitchell commented. "I think we've all said it and we all know it. He's what the Canucks are all about.
"He was really proud to wear the jersey and proud to be a part of the organization. Not only that, he was proud to be a part of the community, not just in Vancouver but around British Columbia."
