WILCO played the first night of 5 consecutive shows in Chicago last night. No opening act and played 32 songs. They've announced that they will cover every song they ever recorded during their 5 night stand. Played a bunch of rarities last night.

How cool is that!

Love to experience something like that with PJ
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
ride" ! Unknown

  • You gotta love the spirit of some of these jam-bands. They really go all out and always stretch their limits.

    kewl!

    I would NOT call Wilco a jam-band.

I would and do, however, call them among the elite live bands currently making music.

Kudos to them for the residency gigs in Chicago. I enjoy Pearl Jam more than Wilco, but PJ would do well to borrow a few tricks from Wilco's business model.

I've seen Wilco about six times in the past three years. Pearl Jam I've seen eight times (zero times in the last three and 1/2 yrs). This is mostly due to Wilco touring Florida and the South extensively.

With all those concert experiences, I say Wilco is every bit as good as Pearl Jam in a live setting. These residency shows are a great way to showcase their abilities to their fans (in their own hometown, no less).

    for sure!

i have a bunch of live wilco boots... tweedy sounds great live!

and as far as them "jamming", its just the right amount... nothing overboard like some bands out there... but they know when to extend a good part in a song... and im lucky to be in chicago so i can see em the next time theyre in town... which is alot

  • I've been fortunate to see Wilco 5 times the last two years and every time it was GA and I stood front and center at the stage. Those shows were all incredible. I guess thats what it feels for the long time 10C members who get great seats for the PJ shows. I love both bands live but I've been fortunate to experience in such intimate settings. I did get to see PJ at the Vic but couldn't get anywhere near the stage. Still a great experience though.

  • oh how i love wilco.

I was drinking in Downtown Belleville last night and one of Jay Farrar's brothers was at the bar drinking. He was a one time UNCLE TUPELO member.

Kinda Random, but thought I would share.

Was it Wade? I've seen a DVD of a Primitives show and it's hard to believe that guy is Jay's brother! Even as a teenager Jay didn't have much stage presence (though I'm not complaining - I love his music).

And I really wish I lived in Chicago right now. I've only had the chance to experience Wilco once in person so far, but it was so much fun. They've surpassed Pearl Jam as my favorite band in recent years. I'd kill to see just one of the residency shows.

This stuff has been sick. I wish i could be there.

It reminds me a little of what PJ did in Boston during there three night stand.

I wonder if Jeff would dare to play a couple old uncle tupelo songs or bust out a neutral milk hotel or neil young cover with the full band on the last night?
