Internet buzzwords/phrases that get on your nerves

I don't mean the old acronyms (LMAO, LOL, IMHO, OP, etc.), but those terms that seem to pop up in Internet conversations on blog threads or message boards. The one that is irritating me like fook right now is "meme". I love the board member meme, of course, and of course I've read Dickhead Dawkins, but that word just annoys the hell out of me. Go to a political forum, and people talk of the "meme" of a certain political candidate and their supporters; read a debate and one person writes off another's argument as a "meme". Shaaaaadappp wid dem fakkin' memes, okay!

Any other word or phrase that pisses you off?

'internets' and 'the google' used to piss me off until I heard Henry Rollins say it in person.

    a) that's disgusting.
    b) it's not funny. you didn't make it up, it came from a movie so don't pretend it's your own witty remark.

I can't stand the word blog or podcast. I work in a high school and the teachers here don't really know what blogging or podcast are but they want it. I had this conversation with a teacher about a month ago:

Teacher: Can you set me up with the podcast application.

    Me: WTF?

Teacher: I saw on the news last night that other schools are using podcasts as a teaching tool and I would like that application installed on my computer. (as if Podcast is an app like Word or Photoshop)
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?

I use 'prolly' sometimes. and yeah, it is laziness. :D

but I mainly use it if I'm in a hurry to type something (like on MSN when I need to dash).. also, I hate typing the word 'probably', the proper spelling took me ages to learn/remember so I just really, really dislike it nowadays.

I understand that one (well, the concept really -- not so much the actual words). I hate it when people misuse technology/software terms like that. The way I see it, people can be annoyed with my bad grammar and I can be annoyed that they don't know the difference between a gigabyte and a gigahertz.

As for phrases/words, they really arent buzzwords, but the following annoy me:
    -using 'prolly' for 'probably'
-using 'becos', 'becuz', 'cos', etc for 'because'
    -the words 'youtubed' or 'youtubing'

There's probably more, but that's what immediately comes to mind.

You will never see me use an emoticon. I was trained to communicate using words not pictures. I'm positive this leads to a lot of people thinking I am serious when I'm not, but I really don't care. Oh, and nothing against all of you who do. It's a personal thing...

pwn. Usually used in gaming. Every time I see this I want to reach through my computer screen and strangle the 14 year old punk who wrote it. Whats worse is when people try to pronounce it, "pown." Its OWN you idiots, it is a typo that spread like wildfire.

DEAR sweet bejeebus i loather that one!

    hahahaha.

only other i can think of off the top of my head is 'mayhaps'...it's just annoying to read imo.

Yeah, when I see a thread where they're all prosteletizing about the cookie cutter theory or the straw man argument I get a visual of a scene from Shrek in my head! :D

Can't even find prosteletizing in the dictionary. It means preach doesn't it? Why not just use preach? Damn big words for no readily apparent reason just confuse me and make me think someone is just trying to be clever. :p

On a side note Fins, there was a book I read called Just another little murder by Phil Cleary a local identity who is a former footballer and local Federal MP. It's about his sister who was murdered in 1987 by her ex boyfriend, stabbed outside the kindergarten where she worked. A really sad story and Phil talks all about the murder and the ensuing trial and his efforts to change the law. His sister's murdererer was found not guilt on the grounds of provocation. Anyway it's a well written book and his story, about what happened to his sister, is incredibly sad and I wouldn't wish it on anyone but I reckon about 5 times AT LEAST in that book he uses the word lumpenproletariate and not long after on the tv I heard him use it in an interview as well!!! Just completely bamboozles me that he's so stuck on the word and around the time after I'd read the book that word started showing up all over the place and it's not like it's an easy one that rolls off the tongue OR enters the brain easily! :D
