    That's a great commercial! :D

Yeah, so they can eat seals and stuff...They don't do it where I live though. But then, you don't often see seals lying on the beach. Rocks, maybe. Or a marina...

The realtor who sold us our house a long time ago (we have since moved) told us that this sort of thing happens in this area all the time. "At least once a year," he says, "the bay is red with seal blood!". And you know, he didn't even bat an eyelid when I told me that, in fact, he'd seen it on National Geographic - and not from his waterfront home! Idiot.

YES!! I think that's where I saw it! On a national geographic doco!!!
It was amazing, and mind blowing and terrifying and sad all at the same time!
I mean I know it's their natural instinct but come on! Those seals are so cute! It was awful to watch what they did. One of them even caught a baby seal out in the water and played aerial ping pong with it for a bit and then for some strange reason, pushed it back into shore and let it go.
I can't tell you what I was like watching it.  :)

That'd be a huge selling point for me! NOT!!! As if you'd wanna look out your window and see that?? I don't care that it is nature. I don't want to watch it. I've seen it and I know it can happen but I don't need to watch it repeatedly. Once was enough.

twas probably in the doco, wolves of the sea.
at baie americaine in the crozet islands they do it to get the elephant seals. and it is only the females that do so here, cause the beach is not steep enough for the males to do so safely.
at medina bay in argentina, the beach is steeper and this enables the males to throw themselves out onto the beach to get the sea lions as well.

they are such magnificent creatures. and to think, orcas stay with their mothers their entire lives. :)

Not sure cate. It doesn't ring a bell. I just remember that poor little seal getting flipped around like a ping pong ball and actually gasping in shock when they flopped onto the beach. It was one of the most amazing and terrifying things I've ever seen. I think I squealed in disbelieve for a good half hour. The memory is etched into my brain. Oh and for some reason I keep hearing David Attenborough's voice doing the voice over. BUT that could just be familiarity. :D

yep. that was def wolves of the sea.

and how in norway after theyve driven the shoals of herring into a tighter school up to the surface, they stun them with sharp tail slaps to make it just that much easier to pick them off to eat. mmm seafood.
