I don't eat red meat or pork (used to) and I (and pretty much everyone that knows me) thinks that I am probably one of the best cooks they know.
Just because you don't eat something doesn't mean you can't appreciate the finer parts of what goes into something. Even though I no longer eat red meat or pork, I still make those things for my red-meat eating friends and they think it's all pretty much incredible.
Oh well, this thread has gotten off topic...
I live in Arizona now (grew up in Chicago) and the pizza scene here is pretty lacking. There are a couple of pretty decent places...and usually those places have owners that came from Chicago. I really, really miss some good ol' Chicago style pizza...think and thin crust!
Mmmm...
The top-rated pizza place in the country is in Arizona. Phoenix, maybe? Pizza Bianco. Ever tried it? I saw it on food network. The guy makes his own mozzarella, grows his own herbs, wood-fire pizza. Yum!
Also, should've mentioned that my 'gourmet' friend doesn't cook meat, either.

Yeah, I have had Pizza Bianco. It is really good!! It's a little pricey and it takes FOREVER just to get in the door, but it's damn good pizza. Not one of those "Friday night grab a quick pizza places" though. If you are ever in the area, I def. recommend it...as long as you don't mind waiting.
In Chicago, no matter where you are you can go to a local pizza place and it's almost guaranteed to be great. Here, it's like there are 3 places in the entire valley that have "good" pizza...and most require a long-ass drive to get there.
Oh well, just makes going back to Chicago that much more special!

yep... id say atleast half the arizona population is from chicago... the other half snuck across the border... makes sense that the pizza would be good
ill have to try that place the next time im there visiting my grandma
I made homemade pizza tonight. Fuckin' yum!
Homemade crust with my killer pizza sauce. Mushroom, onion, roasted red peppers, and an assortment of olives...fresh mozzarella...cooked perfectly atop a pizza stone.
Oh man!
Oh, and yeah.. this thread made me want pizza! Hahaha
A pizza joint by me just started selling barbecue chicken pizza. I had it for the first time last night. Quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had. And I'm not big on chicken on pizza. But this was outstanding

Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I agree. I usually just like pizza pizza. Not chicken pizza. If I want chicken I'll get chicken. But this looked and smelled so good last time I was in there, I had to at least try it. And now it's my favorite pizza
I had a white pizza on Saturday with fresh garlic, spinach and black olives.
Holy mackeral was it good.
Does anyone else like salad pizza?
It is pizza with no cheese, but has chopped salad on top.
It is really good.

BBQ chicken pizza is great when done right, but it's kind of like deep dish: I don't consider it pizza, per se. It's a meal in the form of pizza.
I'm amazed you just had it for the first time!
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
Yeah, I'm not really the experimental type. I love bbq chicken, and I love pizza. But we had a gathering here. so we ordered 5 pies, and I snuck a bbq one in to try it.

BBQ chicken pizza, smothered in hot sauce is divine.

Any kind of pizza too... except pizza with pineapple on... that shit's wrong.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

Your pizza from Saturday night sounds awesome! As to salad pizza, it makes me gag. The agents I used to work with on Long Island would order one all the time from a place known for its pizza. It was messy, the dressing was horrible, and the flavor was lacking! When I mentioned this to the agents they looked at me like I was speaking in a foreign language. Who Knows?!? Maybe I'm crazy?!? But as far as I'm concerned Salad? Yes. Pizza? Yes! Salad Pizza? I'll pass, thanks!

It was awesome! It is a place right down the street, wood stove, yummy.
And they never question anything I order. lol
Hold this, add that.
I know, I know....salad pizza. I got turned onto it when I worked in Westport, land of the railthin. But in Norwalk they make a Greek salad pizza. It is in a bread bowl made out of homemade pita. Really good.

I plan to make my own pizza soon, it would be very simple.
Blanch 10 or so tomatoes, peel, and process in food processor
Saute a chopped onion until translucent
Add the processed tomatoes
add a bayleaf
some salt, pepper
basil
cook for many hours. My dad used tomato paste and he used meat in his sauces. They were very good, but I don't want to use those two things. I think if I boil the sauce down for a few hours it will thicken, and be a nice tasty tomato sauce. Take out the bay leaf
make a nice standard pizza crust
put sauce on top
shredded mozzerella cheese
one side all cheese
one side with thinly sliced mushrooms and minimal chopped green peppers
oregano
Sprinkle olive oil on top, and then into the oven
It will be devine!
I just have to do it. I haven't made sauce or pizza in years, and it didn't turn out too good last time when I tried on my own. Maybe I'll use a potato bread recipe for the crust. I wish I could find fresh yeast. I used packaged yeast, and I wasn't happy with the flow of rising. My bread rose, but it didn't have the healthy rising smell as it was rising.

as far as vegetarian suggestions go - the only topping I indulge in at times is eggplant. Great!
