Anyone else a connoisseur of pizza? Its probably my favorite food. I am a vegan, and pizza is one of the only times I allow myself to eat dairy. Soy cheese sucks big time. Anyways, it would be cool to try eating at every NY or LA pizza place or something.
I am just a cheese pizza/plain pizza fan, and wanted to broaden my horizons, what are some other good vegetarian type pizza toppings I could try? What are some other good pizza types I could try? There’s got to be more to life than a cheese pizza, although I don’t know what it could be!
Do you like homemade or delivery? Frozen pizzas? Regular pizzas or Sicilian? Do you fold your slices and shove them in your mouth or eat it “regular”. Is the crust the best part? Do you like the Pizza Hut stuffed crust? Do you prefer NY style pizza (greasy big slices) or are you a fan of thin crust pizza?
In middle school we took a class trip to DC, and for one week, I had pizza for lunch and dinner, every day!
I am drooling right now!

i love black olives, red onions and mushrooms on pizza. every so often a deep dish pizza hits the spot!
this place in berkeley has some delicious pizzas...here's a sampling of what they offer, gourmet stuff, simple but amazing ingredients http://cheeseboardcollective.coop/Pizza%20Collective/z.htm

Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I veggie pizza I used to order was bell peppers, mushrooms, and fresh garlic. No cheese and I would add red pepper flakes to it. I'm not a vegetarian nor a vegan, but this pizza was damn tasty!!!

veggie options? hopefully you have a open mind at trying random foods...
olives (black or green)
onions
peppers...all these are obvious.
you could kick it up a notch with things like:
spinach
artichokes
tomatoes
jalapenos
try some spices as well.
just experiment...you'll never know what will actually be good on a pizza until you try it.

My absolute favourite pizza topping is PINEAPPLE! So deliciously yummy! Yet, so many people detest this wonderful topping.
I also enjoy green peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and garlic as toppings.
On occasion, I get a craving for meat, but for the most part, my pizza is meat-free (despite being a proud carnivore); although, pineapple and ham is a yummy combo.
Whole wheat thin crust for me.
I'm a carboholic and love bread, but the crust is my least favourite part of the pizza, unless I'm PMSing.
we all know deep dish is the only way to go! with the works!

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all!
My g-parents like Papa Murphy's and their pizzas are awesome when we use the pizza stone. Hell I even cooked a frozen pizza on it, cant recall what kind, and it was killer.
I like the mom & pop pizza places; not really chains; but as long as it has lots of meat and cheese, Im good.

My favorite deep dish place is in Champaign, IL! Do you ever go to Papa Del's??? I loooooove that place. I spent a lot of money there in college.
that said, my *fave* is a thin crust pizza with onions, garlic powder and crushed red pepper flakes. also....mmmmm.....a really good margherita: fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil....and i like it with some roasted garlic....and the best sauce!
if you truly want to expand your pizza repertoire i suggest trying:
margherita
grandma's - delicious! - thicker crust, rectangluar slices....great sauce, garlic
sicilian - very thick crust
as to toppings, as mentioned, onion and or garlic......but peppers can be a nice change, mushrooms, spinach. i am a meat-eater, but NEVER on my pizza!
*and yes - not a real fan of pizza chains. ok in a pinch, but i live in NY...we have PLENT of fantastic mom and pop places. as for at-home frozen pizza, i like stoffer's french bread pizza with veggies. pretty decent for frozen. we used to also make our own with those pre-made crusts....tasty!
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
i'm not a vegetarian, but some veggie options i love are mushrooms, spinach and artichokes or just mozzarella. mmmmmmmm. i'm getting hungry right now.

Gotta say though, the best pizzas are always home made. It's like getting a Pizza with EVERYTHING tailored to your own desires. *drool*

That may be what I have for dinner tonight.
If you eat dairy, you are a vegetarian, not a vegan. Vegans do not eat dairy. Not a criticism, just pointing that out.
That being said, as a vegan, pizza with dairy cheese is one thing I do miss a little. However the pizza place in our town makes me up a nice vegan pizza with stuff on it like sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and olives and its very good.

I have to call this as I see it
1. You are not a vegan
2. You don't know crap about pizza
a cheese pizza connoisseur???
Next time you're in Northern California, come eat at the restaurant where I work. All the meat is natural, grass-fed. And the fish are wild caught.
not really, I have soy milk instead of regular milk, I have soy yogurt instead of dairy yogurt, I have soy nuts, and as I said before I occasionally eat soy cheese, ie soy cheese and macaroni or soy cheese on pizza but dont like the taste of it. And I dont eat anything with cheese or dairy in it, except as mentioned pizza
So I sort of disagree. I may not be a full vegan, but I am pretty damn close
So a pizza connoisseur has to have every single type of flavor of pizza? My thread was about trying to expand my horizons pizza wise so I dont really get your blunt and rather rude post. Again, if someone eats soy poducts up the wazoo and only eats dairy in terms of cheese pizza, is there really that much of a difference. I dont eat meat and dont eat dairy save the pizza. Are we really splitting hairs here crazy mary? I define myself how I want, and if I eat what I said I did in my previous post, I would say I am as close to being a vegan as humanely possible!
you remind me of my friend that considers herself a foodie and somewhat of a gourmet home-chef. lol, but she won't eat lamb, pork, duck or beef. We've labeled her the "starch gourmet." She can make a mean potato salad!
I'm sorry if I got your feathers all riled up, but at least we agree you're not a vegan, just as close as "humanely possible."
I don't eat red meat or pork (used to) and I (and pretty much everyone that knows me) thinks that I am probably one of the best cooks they know.
Just because you don't eat something doesn't mean you can't appreciate the finer parts of what goes into something. Even though I no longer eat red meat or pork, I still make those things for my red-meat eating friends and they think it's all pretty much incredible.
Oh well, this thread has gotten off topic...
I live in Arizona now (grew up in Chicago) and the pizza scene here is pretty lacking. There are a couple of pretty decent places...and usually those places have owners that came from Chicago. I really, really miss some good ol' Chicago style pizza...think and thin crust!
Mmmm...
