right now, fear and loathing in las vegas...

    in the que..

    enter night- metallica biography
    pearl jam 20 (haha)
first book of game of thrones series...

but i think those three in the que are going to be usurped by the duff mckagen bio, if i can find it on sale this week...

Is it your first reading of Fear & Loathing? I would give a sizeable chunk of cash to read that as the 'first time' again. (Would help to be 18 again too I guess...) Fuck, I read that book in a day and re-read it again the next day. LOVED it.

Let us know what you thought of Enter Night, if it is good I would like to read it.
A Game of Thrones is awesome. You will want to go right into the 2nd book after the first. Doesnt matter if you like that sort of thing or not, it has everything in it and the character development is top flight. Enjoy!

yeah it is my first time reading fear and loathing. i love thompson's style. i have not gotten to it too much the last 2 weeks because i have been preoccupied with my cardinals' run through the playoffs  i am taking it slow because i want to take it all in. most times when i read things the first time i miss something so i want to really get it so i don't have to read it again in 6 months lol...

i'll let you know about enter night. i got it on clearance at border's since all of their stores were closing and haven't read it yet since i got like 6 books at the same time.

as far as game of thrones goes, i watched the series and fell in love with it and people said how much better the book is so i had to read it, didn't i? hopefully i get a better grasp of that since there were just so many interesting characters in the show that i want to know more about.

    The Lone Survivor

A book about a navy seal who is the "lone survivor" of his team on an afghan mission.

so far it is okay. He really beats a right wing drum and attacks a lot of liberal things, but it is early. i'm trying to stay open minded about it and see things from his perspective in hopes it will enlighten me to a side of things i usually don't agree with or see.

I was hoping it would focus more on the aspects of survival and sacrifice. I did not know i was going to be preached to about politics.

We'll see though hopefully it will move in that direction

Great book. Great story. It did get a little preachy w/ the politics.

They're making a movie out of it. That should be pretty cool...

That was a really good read. HBO is making a movie on the book...I think it comes out next year.
  • Finishing up Ancient Gonzo Wisdom: Interviews with Hunter S Thompson; next gonna re-read Thompson's The Rum Diaries before the movie is released. After that, I want to get into a classic, but just not sure which. Any suggestions?

Just finished Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton and before that I read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and before that Congo, also by Michael Crichton.

Now I am on Reliquary by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

i love crichton. the origin story in the latest planet of the apes movie reminded me very much of part of his book next.

He's my favorite author, been reading his stuff since I was 8 haha. Lost World is probably my favorite book of all time. I am getting around to finally polishing off his entire fiction catalog. I have read a bunch this year that I had never gotten around to reading like Eaters of the Dead, Congo, and Sphere. I think Great Train Robbery is the last one I have left before his new book comes out in November, sucks it will be his last one.

I really enjoyed his nonfiction book, Travels.

Yeah you should definitely try to stay with Game of Thrones as long as you can. There are so many characters and places that it is hard to remember everything if you wait too long to go back, but you also run the risk of burning out. I did that a couple of times and had to take a break. I'm on the fifth book right now and a bit stalled, but hoping it will get going soon. The second and third book are fantastic. The third is one of the best books I've ever read.

Just finished Chuck Hogan's "Devils in Exile"... just started Michael Connelly's "The Closers", fly through his books, tackling his books in order... waiting on starting Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan's "The Fall" until I get "The Night Eternal"... figuring I'm gonna want to run through the last two back to back.
