All night, Education and Who You Are

I appreciate the band wanting to mix these in but to me I just don't want to hear these. They did a great job on All night last night, Ed was really into it but I just don't think the crowd outside a few loons on this board wants to hear All night or Education. Who You are is a little more legit; but it seemed like A LOT of people used that as their piss break song.

Love that they've brought Light Years back though. That song has always been top notch.

Fuck that noise dude, I don't give a shit if I'm the ONLY person in the whole place who wants to hear those songs... playing concerts isn't just about playing the hits for this band, they cater to their diehard fans and casual fans just the same... people want to piss during who you are, fuck em, it's their loss.

  • i gotta disagree, both songs are great songs, and it helps new comers to the shows to get a taste outside of betterman and even flow.
Its songs like those that get people thinking that there is more to the pearl jam catalog than jsut the popular songs

as for the piss break thing, if you cant hold it in to watch them perform the fuck out of the song, thats just a shame

I guess we should all be happy Ed doesn't decide to consult you when making setlists then, huh?

I mean, seriously. "I don't want to hear these songs, therefore they should not play them for other people." w.t.f. is that about?

I agree but All night and Education as deep cuts instead of things like Breath, Smile, Brain of J, or footseps are missteps...

My thought exactly!! All Night just isn't a great song, they could have picked any number of other songs to take it's place as Leash '08 (ahem...Other Side, Fatal, any of the ITW songs)...but Education and Who You Are??? Come on!

    In your opinion, maybe.

I like Education better than any of those songs, except maybe Breath.

They don't. They can leave. They can go piss. They can plus their ears. I don't care.

All Night and Education are good songs. Period.

totally agree with this concept but I dont think All night is going to do it for the casual fan, he/she prob wont even be able to figure out where its from at a record store. I think cuts like Parting Ways, I Got Shit, or Present Tense achieve this same aim while delivering a better song and one more people are into. Even the 10 C section seemed pretty down on All night and I heard someone saying what is this Dr. Seuss shit during Who you are lol, which I found pretty funny for a several reasons even though I like the song.

The casual fans get Evenflow, Jeremy, etc etc.
The rest of us get Education, All Night and other Lost Dogs that have never been played before.

    Seems fair enough to me.

As with most posts of this ilk, it probably boils down to YOU don't like the songs. Which is fine. Just don't act like your objections are coming on behalf of all the poor casual fans who won't know how to sing along.

No one ever seems happy with the set lists. If the boys play mostly hits...someone complains and wants all the b-sides and rareties. If they start playing obscure stuff...sure enough someone complains. Be content that they are out touring and playing songs at all

Are you for real? Are you really speaking for 24,000 other people? Do you think Pearl Jam has earned the right to play whatever they want? I guess no matter what they play there will always be someone that is unappreciative of being there in the first place. Do you think that your dream set list would appease the 24,000 people you are speaking for? I know I am waisting my breath but I get sick of infantile rants from people. Sorry if I rub you the wrong way but damnit, sit back and realize how lucky you are to even be there and lucky enough to have ear drums to appreciate it.

I don't know ... All the downers that emerge every tour used to get to me ... I remember some knob on here who spent all his time dissing Mike's guitar playing (?!), and whining about the amount of new songs being played. Now, it's just mildly amusing.

I'm still pumped they're touring again ... Freakin' awesome. Getting work done is more difficult, but the mood is good. Let's see what they do tonight. It'll be killer no matter what.

  • they mix up their setlists plenty, so there is room for these every once in awhile. there is always at least one song i dont like. but their huge variety makes up for it. plus i'm a fan of all night and who you are now and i wasnt before.

I thought "All Night" rocked live. I have been listening to it a lot since returning from the VA Beach show.
