Can T.O. get 66 more receiving TDs in his career?

He needs 66 more to pass Jerry Rice......I think 66 is a stretch, but he'll get close......say whatever you want about T.O., but the numbers don't lie.....one of the all-time greats

  • I say yes. The guy is in AMAZING shape. If he stays healthy, he could absolutely do it.

I hope he doesn't, personally. Rice was a great TEAM player through good and bad. T.O.?, not so much

I don't think there's any chance that happens. He'll be 35 years old before the season is over. He's averaged approximately 11 TD's per year for his career. He'd need to keep up his current pace for 5 years after this one just to tie Rice. Jerry Rice had 154 TD's after 12 seasons which is the same point TO is at right now.

If anybody has a shot it's Randy Moss. He is 3 years younger than TO and has 125 TDs. After 10 seasons Jerry Rice had 131 which is the same point Moss is at right now.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

That being said, I don't think anybody will touch Rice's record until they expand the season to 18 games. He's so far out there it's very hard for receivers to maintain a high level past age 35.

His current contract runs through 2011 when he will be 38. I just don't see him playing till he's in his 40's so I would have to say no shot.

The other td records will be broken in the next 5-6 years though. LT over Payton for rushing tds and Manning will pass Favre for passing tds but Rice's record is safe.

Say what you will about T.O., but this guy will go down as one of the best WR's of all time. I think it's up to him if he wants to break this record. This guy is in phenomenal shape and is definitely one of the best WR's in the league at the age of 35, which is pretty remarkable.

I think he will do it.

Hard to say ....provided he stays in Dallas .....the Romo connection plus getting to play the Eagles twice a year has to improve his chances greatly!

Since 2000, he's averaging 14.5 TDs a year. He would need almost 5 more seasons of maintaining that rate to break the record which means playing until age 39.

It would be funny if he's just short of the record and looks back at the 9 games he missed when he sabotaged the 05 Eagles season in his prime.

Btw, he is really lucky that the arbitrator ruled to give his rights to the Eagles instead of the ravens in 2004 or we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

He's played 10 games against the Eagles 42 catches for 675 yards and 7 tds.

Projected to a full season that goes 67 catches and 1,080 yards and 11 tds. He hasn't had a season that bad since 1999 so he's hardly killing the Eagles.

Well in response to Jersey Joe he is hardly being shutdown by the Eagles when he averages more TD's against them than he does against the rest of the NFL or averages more yards per reception against them than the rest of the NFL!

    2002:

    13rec 166 2tds

    2003:

    1rec 20yds

Actually these stats I originally posted are just fine!

TO touchdowns per game against Eagles .78 against rest of the NFL .75
TO average yards per catch against Eagles 16.3 against rest of the NFL 14.8

Bottom line he puts up better number against your Eagles than the rest of the NFL. Now for you original comment about the Eagles shutting him down and sounding stupid!!!

Which all equates to T.O lead teams are 4-4 against the Eagles in his career

oh..btw..he's averaging 4.75 catches per game and 77.25yds per game...thats pretty average...but you're right...that 16.26yds per catch have done pretty well for him..if it were an individual sport

All very valid points and you bedazzled me with your superior football intellect .......but ....the point of the thread is will TO break Rice's TD record and the facts stand .....TO scores more TD's per game against the Eagles than the rest of the NFL so based on that fact it serves him well to play the Eagles twice a year!
