At home sick with strep throat, any suggestions to numb the pain?

I'm about to rip my fucking throat out..son of a bitch...I popped like 4 advils and it didn't do shit..well it reduced the fever a bit..I'll have to sweat this fucker out I guess..

    If you don't have anything stronger, keep taking Advil, but really, there is not much you can do. Gargle with something -- look it up, but I think maybe epsom salt solution works or baking soda. Don't quote me on that though.

    lol..the whole work/teaching scenario has kept me from my pit duties, but nice callback ;)....I'll try a shot of something later as I just tried to swallow some oatmeal a few minutes ago but it didn't work out too well..

    The negative side of teaching - sickness every other week. Nasty man, but get used to it ;)
    My GF (also a strep-prone teacher) just uses Strepsils.

    If the ice cream doesn't work... Try a mouth rince called 'Oraldine'. It's designed for dental and throat infections. It's antiseptic and works wonders on my throat when it's bad :)

    Too bad for your girl..yeah, this is my first experience with strep..thought it was just a typical sore throat, but a very severe one and/or associated with cold or flu...ignored it for a few days and let it grow into this fucking monster..the Doc prescribed some antibiotics which should help the situation in a day or two, but in the meantime nothing has helped the pain..I've used Ceprecal and all that shit but haven't heard and/or noticed the brand you suggest..will check later, thanks..

    had a really bad sore throat once (can't remember if it was strep) but it got so bad i went to the doc and he gave my vicodin....within 15 minutes there was no pain and i could talk....so my recommendation - vicodin, tea with honey and sleep


    and don't pull a gtd on me and tell me it won't work ;):p:D

    haha, my first response should have been how nothing you can possibly do will work and strep only gets worse so why bother getting up in the morning

    @ Champ - Strepsils are lozenges, she gets them every time so they must be somewhat effective.

    It's funny you should mention that because I did entertain the notion of handwaving every single suggestion/reply with excuse after excuse..but don't really have the energy to do so..would have been a nice running joke ;)....oh well....and nah, I won't fuck with Vicodin ;)..
