  • That white people thing drives me nuts. Maybe it hits too close to home, or maybe it misses the point, I don't know. I just know that dominant corporations arent a good thing because "whitie" likes to hate them.

If you get reeeeeeeeeeally pissed off at corporations, you can threaten to move to Canada!

#75 Threatening to Move to Canada
    February 24, 2008 by clander

Often times, white people get frustrated with the state of their country. They do not like the President, or Congress, or the health care system, or the illegal status of Marijuana. Whenever they are presented with a situation that seems unreasonable to them, their first instinct is to threaten to move to Canada.

For example, if you are watching TV with white people and there is a piece on the news about that they do not agree with, they are likely to declare “ok, that’s it, I’m moving to Canada.”

Though they will never actually move to Canada, the act of declaring that they are willing to undertake the journey is very symbolic in white culture. It shows that their dedication to their lifestyle and beliefs are so strong, that they would consider packing up their entire lives and moving to a country that is only slightly similar to the one they live in now.

Within white culture, it is agreed upon that if Canada had better weather it would be a perfect place.

Being aware that this information can be used quite easily to gain the trust of white people. Whenever they say, “I’m moving to Canada,” you must immediately respond with “I have relatives in Canada.”

They will then expect you to tell them about how Canada has a perfect healthcare system, legalized everything, and no crime. Though not true, it will reassure them that they are making the right choice by saying they want to move there.

But be warned, they will reference you in future conversations and possibly call on you to settle disputes about Canadian tax rates. So use this advice only if you plan to do some basic research.

    "M.T.V.-Get Off The Air"

Fun Fun Fun in the fluffy chair
    Flame up the herb
    Woof down the beer

    Hi
    I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go

My job is to help destroy
    What's left of your imagination
    By feeding you endless doses
    Of sugar-coated mindless garbage

    So don't create
    Be sedate
    Be a vegetable at home
    And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll

    How far will you go
    How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill

You've turned rock and roll rebellion
    Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination

    M.T.V. Get off the
    M.T.V. Get off the
    M.T.V. Get off the air
    Get off the air

See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their tits and their dicks
    As they lip-synch on screen
    There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
    Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care

    M.T.V. Get off the air
    And so it was
    Our beloved corporate gods
    Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
    To call yourself a pioneer
    When you're too god-damn conservative
    To take real chances.

    Tin-eared
    Graph-paper brained accountants
    Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now

    The lowest common denominator rules
    Forget honesty
    Forget creativity
    The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game

    But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?

    M.T.V.-Get off the air!
    NOW
  • I hated that Canada article worse! I actually wouldnt mind going to Canada, i could never convince the significant others in my life.

Had the neo-con dominance continued I might have had to take the chance.

I HATE MTV, but we have this MTV"U" that just got added around here. I have to admit I watch it pretty regularly. It is all videos, and a lot of them are indie bands or I guess what's popular on college radio. Welcome change from the garbage that has become MTV as we know it.

Anyone else get this station? What do you think of it?

    #41 Indie Music

    January 30, 2008 by clander

If you want to understand white people, you need to understand indie music. As mentioned before, white people hate anything that’s “mainstream” and are desperate to find things that are more genuine, unique, and reflective of their experiences.

    Fortunately, they have independent music.

A white person’s iPod (formerly CD collection) is not merely an assemblage of music that they enjoy. It is what defines them as a person. They are always on the look out for the latest hot band that no one has heard of so that one day, they can hit it just right and be into a band BEFORE they are featured in an Apple commercial. To a white person, being a fan of a band before they get popular is one of the most important things they can do with their life. They can hold it over their friends forever!

Indie music also produces a lot of concerts, for which white people can attend and meet other white people. It’s especially useful, since they are attending the same concert, they both like the artist and can easily strike up a conversation that will flow from band at the show->other bands they like->where they went to/go to school->where to get the best vegan food in town->agreement to meet at said restaurant for awkward date.

It is worth noting that white people are expected to stay current with music and go to concerts well into their 40s. Unlike at dance or hip hop clubs, there are few stigmas attached to being the “old guy at the club.”

But BE WARNED, talking about Indie Music with white people is perhaps the most dangerous subject you touch upon. One false move and you will lose their respect and admiration forever. Here are some general rules

Bands that have had their songs in an Apple ad are still marginally acceptable
Bands that have had their songs in ads for other companies are not acceptable
If you mention a band you like and the other person has heard of them, you lose. They own you. It is essential that you like the most obscure music possible.
Remember, popular artists can turn unpopular in a heartbeat (Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, The Strokes), so you would be best to stick to the following statements: “I love the Arcade Fire,” “I still think the Montreal scene is the best in the world,” “I would die without Stereogum or Fluxblog“* and “Joanna Newsom is maybe the most original artist today.”

*-do not substitute Stereogum for Pitchfork, as this is one of those things that used to be cool, but is now not cool.

So basically, by that article, any person who isn't white (caucasian) only likes mainstream and pop music? I find that hard to believe.

The VMA's were at an all time low in my opinion.
    actually ratings wise

mtv during grunge era (91-94/95) had the least amount of viewers.

    i was shocked by that.
Let's not be negative now. Thumper has spoken

Actually, you read racism where you wanted to see it.

What the article clearly states (and very abundantly) is that white people are the only folk who are so passionate about being all trendy and indie rock.

Walk up to any black person and ask them if it shatters their personal cred if you've heard of their favorite artist(s). Shit, they'd probably be thrilled if you did.

The best VMA's EVER was 1992 when I was introduced to "fartman" (aka Howard Stern)

    That was classic!!

BTW, I was only thirteen and my brother who was sixteen let me watch it with him and that is also when I saw Nervana for the first time and Kurt Cobain was holding little Frances Bean as a baby during an interview!! So cool...

    MTV nowadays....not so good!!

Man, I forgot MTV even existed until I saw this thread. I think the best thing it ever played was "The State."

    well...
i didn't dislike MTV 17 years ago... MTV showed me PJ...
From the other side - i remember Headbangers Ball on MTV, that time -this station wasn't so bad. But they always play commercial music.
The difference about MTV between 90's and 2000's is... that now is only shit. Sometimes i wonder when they play music, because almost everytime when i turn on MTV i see stupid movies, reality shows or whatever U call it.
What the most depressing thing is - MTV still have big influence on young people.
