there's a certain girl on this board who has dreads... and she certainly does not smell... I've known one or two with dreads who didn't smell the best but that's more cos they subscribe to a certain lifestyle... many people do it to look good and they still retain a high hygiene level.

I don't know about the 'he sucks'-part but the hell does he look like he smells!

dreads just don't shine, even when they're clean. so what to you looks like unwashed and therefore matted hair is (most likely, I mean, he is on American Idol) NOT.

the way some people think everyone with dreads smells.. I think it's funny.

and frustrating. lol.

cause I too know the person on this board who Helen referred to (;)) and no, she doesn't smell and I like her hair. also, an old school friend of mine has dreads and if he smells, it's just cause he's not changed his shirt (again!) and not cause of his hair.

Thank you, it always make me laugh when people presume they smell and you can't wash them. The strangest thing about them to me is the way I have to refer to my hair as 'them'

i thouhgt of you immediately when i looked at the pic. and i LOVE your hair, and think it REALLY suits you! and i say this b/c it's true....and honestly, it is RARE for me to like dreads, especially on white chicks. hahaha.

i certainly don't want it to sound racist, b/c i don't mean it that way.....but i find MOST who look best with em happen to be black, perhaps b/c their hair and/or features are better suited to em? dunno. i prefer lots of the long braids over dreads myself tho.

all i do know, is you look good surfy.
and no....you certainly didn't seem to smell and looked quite clean.


as to the guy on american idol.....don't really care for em on him. he's a good looking kid....the dreads are nice enough.....but on HIM....they just don't work imho.


beyond surfy, i don't personally know anyone with dreads, but then agin...especially at my age...not really the demographic to still hae dreads. in my youth, they simply weren't popular outside the african american community, so didn't really know anyone with em. in my early 20s, THEN the got to be a bit more popular across racelines, but most my age/older.....just not being that experiemental at the time....

Oh btw, my friend never smells! That is such a misconception. He washes his hair every day too. The way he got his dreads is from beeswax... a product he put into his hair and started forming them.
