The latest from Daniel Dae Kim's blog:
    nice.

    so does anyone know...
with the writer's strike ending, can we still get our other 8 episodes for a full season? or is that no longer a possibility...

on gma saturday they said shows like grey's *might* get a season finale but most would be lucky to be returning in the fall ontime...

Check my post I made a little while ago. Nothing official yet, but from what I read this is the way ABC is leaning.

From what I've been reading on the internet, it looks like we might get 6 more episodes of Lost this season. It also looks like Lost won't change time slots for now. As we may only get 4 or 5 new Grey's episodes and ABC is thinking of running them after Lost is down their 8 episode run and then bringing back the rest of Lost to close the tv season.
I just read that they were hoping for a total of 13 episodes for this season....that's better than nothing. The same article mentioned that some shows' first run episodes might extend beyond the customary end of May= the end of the TV season.

If we get less episodes this season does it mean that they'll condense the season into 13 episodes or will they just cut the season short as is and pick up where they left off last time?

If that makes any sense at all...

i'm all for as many episodes as they can crank out this season, but my only question is - how will that screw up the 16 episode per season story arc? if we got 13 out of 16 planned episodes, that would be about 80% of the planned story for season 4. what i am trying to say is that the writers/producers had a 16 episode season planned out with the season 4 finale (cliffhanger) for episode 16...what happens now? do we get the last episode that they can film (#13?) and then just wait for the next one (#14?) next february? that would kind of suck. it would be like ben talking about taking locke to jacob's cabin and then waiting 8 months instead of a week for them to get there. or charlie's greatest hits and then waiting 8 months to have him dive down to the looking glass.

i know what you are trying to say. i guess i was thinking my post out a little too long and you beat me too it.

i would have to think that as detailed as the writers/producers are they won't condense or take any short cuts.

I'm pretty sure since they signed on to do 48 episodes starting with the premiere this year - that any episode that is lost this year do to the strike will be added on to a future season.

So let's say they do 13 episodes this season, then next season would have 19.

At least that's what I think will happen.

Either that or they'll be split over the next two seasons (18 next and 17 the final season or vice versa). And I think even with a shortened season this year, they would find some point at which to create a sensible ending/ starting point for next season.

I really don't care how they split it up cause nothing will ever be good enough. If we get all 16 episodes in a row, I'll still want more.

This is from a Yahoo article about when shows will return:

Damon Lindelof is eager for some answers. An executive producer of ABC's mystery serial "Lost," he should learn this week what his show's future holds as it closes out its fourth season.

"Lost" has been back on the air just two weeks. But the strike meant a planned 16-episode shooting schedule was halted after just eight episodes were shot. Fans braced themselves for no more this season.

"But we very much want to come back and do as many episodes as possible," said Lindelof, who then listed a few issues that first need to be settled.

"How many episodes can best serve our story? And what are the production realities?" He noted that the shooting facility in Hawaii, 2,500 miles from his Los Angeles office, had been shuttered since Thanksgiving. The crew has dispersed, the huge cast has scattered.

The first new post-strike episode of "Lost" could possibly be ready for broadcast the week after episode eight appears, he said. There likely would be three or four more after that.

    Could there be even more?

"I'd be surprised if the network wanted to air episodes deep into the summer," he said. But if all the pieces fell into place, "Lost" fans would be blessed: "I don't see why we couldn't deliver all eight remaining episodes."

That kind of zeal should warm viewers' hearts. Lindelof and the rest of TV's creative community seem delighted to be back.

Almost as delighted as we are.

It sounds like Cuse and the rest of the “Lost” writing staff will end the fourth season at the same story point they always intended, cramming eight episodes of plot into the season’s final five installments.

“We will have to condense some stories,” Cuse tells The Hollywood Reporter.

boo to the condensing, although i'm sure they won't cut anything that needs to be told.

I'm fine with them condensing. I know they condensed the Nicki and Paulo storyline last year and that was a good thing!

speaking of the cabin in the woods........I couldn't help but notice the painting hanging on the wall. Not sure what it was though it kinda looked like a dog, but my eye was drawn to it much like the photo of the ghost kid on the wall in the last episode.

One little tidbit to add to the earlier posts:

Cuse also spoke to Variety, in which he said, "We're going to try to make as many as we can and do a good job of finishing out this season. We'll have to compress some of the storytelling we planned for this season, and that may not be a bad thing. Damon and I feel like we know how we can finish it off and still make it a really, really great story."

Variety reports that Cuse tells them that any unproduced episodes planned for this season (presumably three at this point) will be added to the final two seasons at some point, seemingly keeping the show on track to produce 48 episodes total over the course of its final three years.

    - So the three episodes we miss this year will be added on in the future keeping the intention of 48 episodes to complete the show.
