Just watched episode 2, Season 5 on that early On Demand thing they do. Won't say anything for those who haven't watched it yet, but the last 15 minutes are unbelievable. If you thought you've seen McNulty go a little too far before, wait until you see this.

    What's it about?

It's about Baltimore and the law enforcement's fight against drugs in the city. It's much deeper than that and it does focus on other aspects of the city (like the media or school system) but don't be fooled into thinking its a normal cop show. Great characters, great writing, great acting.

People have compared it to Shakespeare and stuff, which is a bit bollocks if you ask me. It's just an amazing show that requires a lot of time and investement - you can't really dip in and out of it. If you decide to check it out, stick with it. I thought it was too overwhelming at first because there seemed to be a ridclious amount of characters but it gets much more interesting as it progresses.

It's probably the only TV show that I've seen that actually improves with each season, instead of declining. And considering that the first season is absoutely outstanding, that's quite an achievement.
  • It's not even funny how close Carcetti is to O'Malley (MD's governor.) It's insane.

An opportunistic calculating mayor who did jackshit for the city of Baltimore to run on the platform he would be able to help the city properly if he were governor? Yeah I'd say Chase pretty much nailed the Carcetti character to the boy governor. The whole show nails Baltimore. Its like watching the local news but there are faces behind all the murder.

  • I just started watching this show last week. I watched six straight episodes of season one on sunday, and I'm almost done with season 2. Great show.

All I have to say is that this Sunday's episode may turn out to be the most devastating television show I have ever seen for me. Normally I've been watching it a week early then just over and over all week to make sure I don't miss anything (not like sit down but have it on in the background), but I don't think Season 5 episode 8 is something I will ever watch again.

Oh well epi 9 comes out Sunday maybe I'll be over it by then. Anyway I live in downtown B'more, like a few blocks from city hall, and mercy hospital where they would close the streets for filming, and they get the city and the evils of capitalism right. From the platform Carcetti (O'Malley) has to run on, to the dickhead republican governor (played by ex-gov Erlich), crooked cops who have to be crooked cuz they don't get funded, crooked media who have to sensationalize stories for no reason, crooked gov officials who take our tax money and pocket it, and the results of what happens played out on the streets and in inner-city schools...just an awesome show showing how sold out the "little people" are in this country.

2 is it and it's all about to blow up...so many loose ends (anyone see a "Wire" movie in our future?)...not sure it'd be good unless it touched 3 1/2 hours though.
