they just told me it should be over $2,000.00. I am doomed.

They say it is usually a result of the wrong type of oil being put in for oil changes. That a turbo compatible oil should be used and if it's not...and regular oil is used...well this is what happens. I hate going to the dealership b/c they overcharge and I am there FOREVER. Little did I know that having my oil changed at Mobil would cost me $2 grand.

    :(

    get a second opinion...

to be honest, the oil thing sound like bs to me...

    go here: http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/index.php

    and ask for help...

    good luck...

People bitch and moan about dealerships being expensive, but there are ENDLESS stories of Mobil/Goodyear/Jiffy Lube/etc. doing very poor work on vehicles. You get what you pay for. Your dealer would have known to use the right oil.

It sucks that you're stuck with this repair now, especially because it seems like Mobil dropped the ball. Hope everything works out for you!

I hear you, but when your mechanic is your friend who works at Mobil I wouldn't expect poor work. Before I went to him I ALWAYS went to the dealership - but have had my share of problems with them as well.

    here is some info:

On Saab 9-5 and 9-3 models years 99-03 Saab is suggesting a PCV(Posite Crankcase Ventilation) upgrade. If you are having troubles with oil leaks and/or oil backing up into your turbo causing smoke to billow out of your exhaust pipe this may be what your Saab needs. Regardless of your year or model if you have an oil leak you should check the function of your PCV system. This can be done by checking that all hoses and passages are clear and that the check valve still works as a one way valve.

i feel bad for you...$2,000 is a ton of money...

    but i have to ask....

when YOU bought the car.....didnt you READ the owners manual???

im thinking that would be one of the FIRST things you would look in to..

WHAT TYPE OF OIL DO I PUT IN MY CAR????

if i am taking my car to a gas station for an oil change....I TELL THEM what type of oil i want...

    THEY DO NOT TELL ME.......
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

I am a girl :) I thought my mechanic would know...he knows that the coolant is specific for a Saab, I assume he knows about oil. And I have yet to hear he used the wrong oil...that is what the dealership is saying.

well he is my bud :) otherwise I agree. he could have fixed it himself and charged me a fortune - instead he said to go to the dealership b/c he feels they should cover this. we'll see......

    *update*

well they are trying to work with me. The cost of the turbo is $1800 - even though warantee has expired, they are willing to give me warantee cost of $1100 and suck up 50% - so I would have to pay $550. Nowhere near the abticipated $2,000-$3,000. phew sometimes things have a not so bad outcome.....

550.00 Well that's a lot better. I also have a saab. It's a little older. I was lucky enough to find an independant saab mechanic who I trust. I have been going there for 7 years. They are still not cheap, but a lot less than the actual saab dealership. :)

I will think good thoughts for you! I don't even know what a turbo is. I'm so sorry
