women's pocketbooks - what's in them?

I am simple...mine contains:

*my wristlet (in place of a wallet - holds credit cards, money, etc. and I can use it alone w/o taking my whole bag everywhere)
*make up bag
*sunglasses
*gum
*ipod
*checkbook
*train passes, metro card, etc...
*cigarettes on bad days
edit *keys (thanks nfanel!) they would be essential....

This morning I was on the train and asked the woman next to me for a tissue - she opens her bag, gave me one, asked if I needed anymore and pulls out an entire roll of TOILET PAPER!!!!!!!!! made me feel quite unprepared!

so girlies, what's in yours?

    mini tape measure - believe me, it comes in handy!
    small perfume atomizer
    cell phone
    pen
    small compact mirror
    mini zip case with face powder, lipstick and lipliner
    hairstick
    gum
    mini bottle of hand sanitizer
    listerine mouth spray


    in small zippered side pocket:
    nail file
    advil
    tampons - always prepared!
    couple of quarters
    hair ties



    btw - i carry a SMALL bag.
    it all fits quite nicely/compactly
    :)



    i only carry keys and sunglasses in my purse when i am not commuting. when i commute, in my 'commuter bag' i have my trainpass with house/work keys attached and wearing my sunglasses, or again...thrown in the commuter bag. i use this bigger bag to carry my lunch, always an umbrella, my purse and one zippered thin bag with more hand sanitizer, tissues, subway map, train schedules,hand lotion, ipod and earbuds.

    k IM gonna answer this one. for ME, i cannot carry a PURSE. its true SENROCK! FASHION to just grab what i need and shove it in my pockets. ESPECIALLY money.     everything I need fits into a wallet
    I just don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die.

    My wallet which has my CTA card, visa/mastercard, DL, husband's business card, picture of my brother, and cash
    sunglasses
    iphone
    lock for the gym
    keys
    bumble bar
    giant bottle of excedrin migraine
    bottle of "tears" for my eyes

    i love having a small purse with me at all times.

    i HATE having things in my pockets, and often times wear things without pockets, or not enough anyway. i would not want to carry my wallet, cell phone, keys, sunglasses, ipod, etc....without a bag. the fact that i DO carry a bag just means i can carry a few other 'non-essential' items with me, but it is soooo conveninet to have em! i love having gum with me at all times! my lipstick! a tape measure! :) seriously. i think what happens is some women carry too BIG a purse, and/or dont empty out non-essentials regularly, etc. this is why i always carry a small bag.

    I need a tape measure this very moment!! Trying to move a desk and I'm not gonna move it if it's not gonna fit!!

    A pocketbook = purse/handbag?

    Well, I don't like carrying them except for the fact that I always need to carry water with me. I'm always thirsty!

    So I have a bottle of water
    lipgloss/chapstick
    wallet/money pouch

    So if weren't for the water, I could fit the other items in my pocket. :)

    I have to say, normally I don't carry a bag. I'm one of those weird women who, if going out anywhere other than work, carries everything in their pockets :o

    I do have a rucksack for work and Monday - Friday that contains:

    Phone
    Headphones
    Wallet (with cards, money, photos etc)
    A few CDs normally
    My current book
    Tissues
    Painkillers
    Make up
    Body spray
    Gum
    House keys

    I DO need to get a bag to take everywhere with me really, but i'm not into big bulky handbag numbers... all a bit too erm... 'girly' for me :o
    Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

    ... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

    I carry a purse but I also have a tote bag with all the stuff for my job. I don't have my own desk.

    I put my keys and cell phone in my pants pocket if I am wearing pants.

    Otherwise, let's see,
    I have
    my wallet, metrocard, Purell, lotion, Altoids, a little mini organizer thing that came with the purse,my sunglasses and my eyeglass case. That's about it.


    Sen-If I have pants I put money in the pocket also. Or I put it in a pocket in the purse. I rarely actually put the money in the wallet :D I'm always finding money somewhere!

    keys are usually in my hand

    that's about it

    On a related question why is it called a pocket BOOK? doesn't make sense but a lot of people say it
