Great catch indeed. Another unreal outing by Dempster. I think he has been our team MVP. I thought he would pitch ok this year, but never this good. Glad we could pull off the W and push STL to 7 back and keep the 4 game lead over MIL.Alpine Valley 6/26/98, Alpine Valley 10/8/00, Champaign 4/23/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Grand Rapids 10/3/04

Yeah, this season has been full of surprises.
Pitching:
Dempster (who would have EVER thought he'd be that good?)
Wood (After seeing him in the closer role last year, he had me worried. The guy has been lights out)
The rest of the pen has been damn solid.
Batting:
De Rosa
Theriot (these two were always decent players but they are huge this year)
Johnson (this guy has become one of my favorite players. 110% at all times and he steps up in the clutch)
Edmounds (I thought he was done and washed up. Hated seeing him wear Cubbie-blue, but he has kicked some serious ass with the bat and glove)
Man, the more I see these guys the more I'm impressed. They are just so solid and so deep in every category.
I'm loving it!!!0 -

Sure has been a lot of pleasant surprises. I just hope we can keep it going. So, does anyone think Eddie may be singing the stretch Aug. 20th?Alpine Valley 6/26/98, Alpine Valley 10/8/00, Champaign 4/23/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Grand Rapids 10/3/04

Nothing on the birds rocking Zambrano's world on Saturday in here?
I'll take losing two of three if in the one win we score nine and hit four out of the ballpark off of Carlos. It counts as a moral victory.0 -

Well you can relive all of those moral victories in September when the Cards are out of the playoffs.
The Cubs could have lost by 20, but they came right back the next day to take the series. Go Cubs!0 -
Well, the Cubs should make the playoffs this year. $500 million over the last couple of years in contracts and they are in a playoff race with the Brewers and AAA Cardinals? Next year, the central is going to be the best division in baseball and the Cardinals and Cubs should have a epic race to the end.0

I sense a little bit of sarcasm.... Are you arguing that the Cubs shouldn't be spending lots of money in order to acquire the best players and subsequently win? Or are you diminishing the value of the Brewers and Cardinals, who have the 2nd and 3rd best records in the NL? I'm gonna say you're doing a little of both, which is ridiculous.ledvedderman wrote:Next year, the central is going to be the best division in baseball and the Cardinals and Cubs should have a epic race to the end
I doubt it. I think the Cards pitchers that have had career years this year will come back to reality. And Ludwick and Ankiel will get caught using their HGH now that we're very close to having a test for it... and they'll hit .280 / 20 home runs a piece next year.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0 -

If you look at the three teams which one is benefitting the most from marginal players going nuts? The Cards have Ankiel, Ludwick, a makeshift pitching staff etc. Cubs, I guess you could say Theriot and Dumpster, but they are pretty much playing to their level. The Brewers have not had anyone play out of their minds with the exception of C.C. so I guess he thinks they suck as a team which is kind of silly.
The annoying thing is that the Cards are beginning to become the new Braves, winning tons of games in spite of their sucking selves.0 -
Combined 18-2 thrashing of the Braves in last nights doubledip. That was enjoyable.0

Ludwick is speculation... but it has been confirmed that Ankiel has used HGH in the past and likely is still using it. I believe Ludwick is using simply because of the unreal spike in his numbers and he is Ankiel's pal.
I hope they get down to about .500 by the end of the season... maybe even Houston can get past them for 3rd place. Did I mention how much I hate the Cardinals?Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0 -
