    "Atonement" -- sad sad sad

"Gone with the Wind" -- come on Scarlett O'Hara, you could have been nicer to Rhett!

"LOTR: Return of the King" -- come back Frodo!

    :(

    Now I am depressed. Thanks.
I know....it killed me that Frodo had to leave. :(
    No fair.
    That was really sad.

Casablanca....get on the plane with her!!!!!!!!
Bridges of Madison County.....get out of the truck!!!!!!!!!!
    AI...that poor little 'boy'
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • I always felt an overwhelming sadness at the end of every sesame street episode...

If they were only longer perhaps more people would be alive today.
    yeah...I hear you.

Requiem for a dream is the one that really pops into my head.

what about SHANE? I love the iconic ending to that movie.

i agrree about "Requiem for a dream" and "Braveheart" (but I think "The passion of the Christ" of Mel G. is deeper and sadder).

    For me also:
"Imaging Argentina" and "Bordertown" (both with Antonio Banderas - full respect!), "Voces innocentes", "Crash" (2004), and recently "Reign o'er me". I was confused after "XXY" and sooooo unhappy & crashed after "8 mm"
And strange ending in "Breaking the waves" (Lars von Trier, 1996)...moving

Ah, I saw the Wicked last week (the musical) I was relieved after all these years to find out they did all live happily ever after, even the wicked witch of the west!! Who wasn't really wicked as it turns out, just misunderstood, and a victim of small minded racists. She ran off to live with the scarecrow in a secluded castle....ahhhhh, happy ending after all.

Oh back to thread, Titanic was good, but not happy. The boat sank and most of them died :(
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

Presumably, of his work, you have only seen the abomination that is Titanic then? Cracking actor. Try the Basketball Diaries.

I just saw The Mist and must say it was a damn good movie. One of Stephen King's better movie adaptations. Somewhere along the lines with Seven, where you enjoy the movie, but it leaves you purposely frustrated with a resolution that leaves you it feeling unresolved.. if that makes sense.

    Any others?
is there anything happier than a headless gweneth paltrow?? i think not!

that movie is sooo damn good! i wasnt left frustrated at all...

how about... umm forest gump, braveheart, saving private ryan, one flew over the cuckoos nest, green mile...

coincidence that half of them star tom hanks?? no way!

I didn't mind that Paltrow lost her head but I felt for Brad Pitt's character. In that one final scene in the desert, where he barely says a word, he showed everyone who said he was just a pretty boy what a hell of an actor he really is. Them's some good powerful facial expressions :D

DEFINITEY! the play between him and spacey (one of my very favorites) is incredible! pitt gets pretty lucky with the roles he lands because he has been in tons of my favorite movies... always does a good job with them too... and morgan freeman rocks! (always makes me think of that family guy with morgan freeman starring in "the narrator" :D)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Gone Baby Gone"

"Primal Fear" messed me up for a couple of days as well

    The Wicker Man

That's an awful way to die...

Having to watch that movie was awful enough. I just saw it recently and couldn't believe how bad it was. But yes, that would be a bad way to die.

The most bizarre ending to a movie EVER for me was 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Presumably you've only seen the recent remake of the Wickerman with Nic Cage? The original is great.

I think Brad Pitt has matured to one of those actors that makes good script choices. Hasn't won an oscar, but has some good performances along the way. Seems a lot of oscar winners try to hard after, and end up picking some really bad films.

Jeremy, if you check back to the top of page two, you'll notice I've already listed Basketball Diaries as an excellent fim with an unhappy ending, a favourite of mine to be honest, I also like What's Eating Gilbert Grape and think he is excellent in that.:)
In Titanic I was just happy to see the fucker dead and my arse was hurting from that cramped cinema chair, my girlfriend of the time made me see the fucker twice as well as The Man in the Iron Mask.

I wouldn't say it was a great movie, however I would watch it again.

I Am Legend - it put me in a funk for a few days.

What is it with Sean Penn films?

    Into The Wild
    Mystic River
    Dead Man Walking

Great great films but all heartbreaking at the end.

Do you need a wee coorie in cuddle Sean?? :D
