Good movies with unhappy endings.

I just saw The Mist and must say it was a damn good movie. One of Stephen King's better movie adaptations. Somewhere along the lines with Seven, where you enjoy the movie, but it leaves you purposely frustrated with a resolution that leaves you it feeling unresolved.. if that makes sense.

Any others?

i was thinking Seven lol, how about "the 25th hour" with Ed Norton

or "Glen Gary Glen Ross" i feel so bad for Shelly in that movie.

    or "Carlito's way"

i can go on and on.

Just watched this the other nights too...it's probably my fav short story of his, I was impressed with how closely the set was to the way I pictured it in my head. The ending was different than the book and totally caught me off guard. Didn't seem unresolved to me...the book had an unresolved ending....the movie was a typically brutal Stephen King ending. A good portion of his work involves the death of at least one fav character...which is great cause it keeps you guessing.

I know I will be in the minority here, but I like the unresolved endings. I thought the end of Seven was awesome. It fit perfectly for me.
American History X was perfect. Cause and effect. Every action has a reaction.

I am sorry...I totally read this wrong. I take back what I said. Yes, both Seven and American History X had sad endings.

Arlington Road... I thought the ending is what made it a good movie.

Hey TrixiePuss, i agree, i love the unresolved endings too. but it does leave you feeling ..................IDK like you want more.

which is the mark of a great film i think.

both endings in said movies , Seven , and American history X were indeed AWESOME!!!!

but, wouldnt YOU even, like to know what happened to those characters?
    Peace, Love.

Agreed. Seven especially. Audiences are getting mature enough now to handle unresolved stories. Another one I can think of is Apocalypse Now...unresolved, but I don't find it fulfilling at all.

I can't believe nobody has said Requiem for a dream. That movie messed me up, but in a good way. My brother told me to watch it so that I'd never get into drugs. I think it did the job pretty well. What happens to all the characters in the end is so horrifying and tragic. I can't decide which one of the 4 characters has it worst. But I guess it was a pretty good film.

On a lighter note, the second Pirates of the carribean. It just ended suddenly when it was getting interesting! It was so frustrating. I guess the aim was to make people see the thrid sequel which worked. But I wasn't satisfied with that movie, especially seeing as though the first one was great.

TrixiePuss? lol I am still processing that. :p

Here is what I like to think happened in both movies.
Seven: I originally thought he was going to shoot himself. I like to think he just walked away, retired and moved to Mexico. lol

AHX: He didn't take revenge on the kid that shot his brother.

I guess I would just hope that both characters learned from their experiences and decided to take the high road, knowing that whatever action they took, there would be a consequence. I am hoping they both just had enough.

apparently after he was quartered he shouted out "hahhaaha missed me ya bastards"

he then died 6 minutes later of the Common Cold. :(
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Seven and American History X are both good choices. The ending of Withnail & I makes me sad. Poor Withnail... :(
