i would have to say its zelda - for a long time my youngest's main ambition if he couldnt be a rockstar, was to become Link - he even had a fan picca drawn for him

    http://www.silvestris.net/zeldapictures.asp?status=link_riley

he was about 8 when he got this :D He still loves the zelda games - just gets shitty when i finish the new ones before him

and besides the wii, we still have our old 64, and it still gets a decent workout

The MArio games are definitely up there with the best of them. Icouldn't pick a favourite Mario game. The original poster is way off with FF3 though. I got the remake on the DS and it sucks. 7 and 8 are awesomely awesome.
A Link to the Past and Street Fighter II are other all time favourites of mine. Also The original top-down Grand Theft Auto. Once they turned 3D it all went to hell.

SF2!!! YEAH! .....GTA 1 ruled, ahhh, stealing cars & selling them at docks, then runing over those marching guys to get extra marks....memories *sheds a tear*

also Goldeneye was the best multiplayer ever at the time!

i got mp3 of the different mario themes (underwater, star-music, underworld, etc) and i listen to em all the time!

the most addictive (maybe not the best) game ive ever played are the Pro-Evo soccer games. Theyre just brilliant, and difficult.
  • When was the last time you played a game for 4 years?

I still play NCAA Football 2003.
  • We are missing one af the greatest games of all time:

    MIKE TYSON'S PUNCH OUT!

    Or contra.

And the code for 99 lives was
Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b,a, select, start
  • The only way I ever beat contra was due to those 99 lives . . .

(and for thread integrity)-Super Mario Bros., definitely one of the best (and Goldeneye on N64).

Original NES games were so much harder than current games. I really think playing those early games are the reason why I am not as challenged with most games these days. The margin of error almost non-existent.

That being said. I really enjoyed Mega Man 2 for NES. So much fun

It was a groundbreaking game when introduced. Personally, I think Super Mario World is the best overall Mario game.

Civilization IV may be the best game ever.

    ^^^ Agreed on Civilization IV

That is a strange list. It cant really decide if its a 'good game' list, 'influential' list, or a 'retro' list.

I would probably give the nod to Zelda over Super Mario Bros. however both were great and miles ahead of the curve at the time. Zelda seemed to break the mold and create the first fun open world game... that probably is more of a direct 'lineage' of today's games than the side-scrolling mario.

When making a video game list, you almost have to break it down by criteria and/or era. Is "Super Metroid" really a better game than Fallout 3?

If we are going by Nintendo games:

    1. Battletoads
    2. Tecmo Super Bowl
    3. Baseball Stars
    4. Bionic Commando
    5. Metal Gear
There are a ton of honorable mentions

Peach is the easiest character to play because she can fly a bit but Toad can't even jump!
