Loving Jammer, loving the puppy photos. Here's our big puppy who still thinks he's a lap dog. Last summer when he was sick he was down to 52 pounds. Now he's up to 76.

Ok I think I figured out the picture thing. Here he is...

Well we got ourselves a dog over the weekend! His name is Jammer (complete coincidence that it's a PJ-related name...that was his name at the shelter and of course I wanted to keep it).

Almost Blackhawks related, too. Get him a #4 sweater!

Brian Wilson for the Australian footballer. Not really. Brian Wilson for the most excellent San Francisco Giants baseball closer who now plays for imalive's favorite team, the D**gers.

Question for all you dog experts.....so we have to leave our new guy at home 2 days a week. I work from home 3 days a week, but my wife and I are both gone on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She doesn't leave until 9am and I get home around 4pm. Is that too long to leave him alone? This is only the 2nd week that we have had him so we are going to see how it goes before deciding if we should hire a dog walker to come take him for a walk those 2 days a week.

jammer is at least a year old, isn't he? he'll miss you all day and be ready to pee a river when you get home, but should be OK :)

Yeah, he's right around a year old. I figured it was cool to leave him for 7, 8 hours at the most.....that's what my family did with our golden retrievers for so many years. Just feel so guilty leaving him at home all day...I'm glad it's only 2 days a week.

I would say that if it's an option, have him taken for a walk. He will appreciate it!

We leave our two dogs at home for many hours, and occasionally overnight, but on these days we throw the ball or frisbee or take them for a run to wear them out before we leave. So they sleep a lot while we are away. We have been doing that since they were puppies about 14 weeks old. Leave out lots of toys so he has something to do, you can get the balls or toys that you put food in for them to get out, have you seen them? If not pm me and I will find you pics :)

Make a big fuss of them when you get home.

Yeah, I take him out for a good walk before I leave and then my wife takes him out for a good walk before she leaves for work so we try to tire him out a bit before we go. We definitely leave him a few toys in his crate and we do have one fo the toys that you stuff with food so it takes him awhile to get it out. I guess I was just feeling guilty leaving him at home all day....he has been great!

Sounds like you are doing everything that you can, don't feel bad unfortunately it's life and most days people are not home for 8hours plus. Jammer will adapt and be happy with this arrangement. Every so often buy new toys and also don't give Jammer all toys at once keep some hidden and rotate them periodically, we used to swap toys fortnightly for variety when you swap them around its like new toys!!!
