On Wednesday I thought I'd be writing an obituary for Brian on here. Oh man, what a hell of a week.

On Sunday night Brian didn't eat much. In the middle of the night he threw up, by Monday morning he couldn't walk. We took him to the vet, he had a super high fever. He didn't get better, he started to have serious seizures and they thought his organs were failing. On Tuesday my husband and I went to see him - me to say goodbye because the prognosis was so awful. And he looked terrible. Almost in a coma, unable to eat or walk. He was having a seizure while we were there. They couldn't figure out what it was - said maybe a specialist would know. But maybe not.

My husband called the doctor later and asked the doctor what he would do and the doctor basically said he'd let nature take its course. He said the seizures were so bad they most likely impacted his brain. So we prepared to euthanize Brian on Wednesday. Told the kids, we all cried. He's only three years old and nobody could figure out what was wrong.

Wednesday morning my husband called the doctor to make plans to come in and the doctor said they'd tried a "Hail Mary" drug that night and Brian was up and walking and had just finished breakfast. John went to see him and he was woozy, but knew his name and commands like sit and shake - it really was some kind of miracle.

He's still had some seizures, but they're milder and he came home last night. He's walking and running around and remembers everything (like wants to chase the cats and play with tennis balls). They say there's some kind of "fever of unknown origin" that happens sometimes - sometimes dogs have eaten snail bait or other bad stuff. We have no idea what happened with Brian. We'll take him to a specialist soon.

Please say a prayer for him and think good thoughts. I'm still in a daze about all this. It was like we lost our wonderful sweet dog and then we got him back. Wow.

Hug your dogs. We are so lucky to have them.

OMG! Reading this makes me want to cry!

I'm so thankful for all of you that Brian made it through! We all know the difference our dogs make in our lives, how they give us so much and ask so little of us. I've enjoyed watching Brian since he was a puppy (growing into his big ears  ) and he seems to be such a sweetheart.

It's awful watching our dogs suffer. AWFUL. Seeing them in pain when they can't tell us what's wrong. Watching them have seizures and not knowing what to do. One of our dogs had epilepsy and it was always so frightening to watch when he had a seizure.

It's especially strange since Brian is so young. I'm glad he's doing better after the roller coaster you've all been on. I hope the specialist can find a cause. When we first adopted Penny, she had a couple of seizures and scared me to death. I thought she would be epileptic too but after several tests they concluded she'd eaten or chewed on some toxic plant in the yard. Thankfully, she hasn't had any more seizures.

{{{HUGS}}} to all of you. Stay well, Brian. I will be hugging my fur-kids when I get home.

Thank you all for the good vibes. Last night after Brian came home I was on the treadmill and he came into the room and curled up on a chair. And he farted. And I thought - wow, did I miss those dog farts. So I will never complain about them again.

see how she's losing the hair on her nose? a pretty classic thyroid problem sign. she is also shedding like crazy....we keep the vacuum out at all times :lol: . she's also gained some weight...another thyroid problem indicator. we'll find out when she goes in for chemo on wednesday.

both literally and figuratively, a thyroid problem would be nickle/dime. coupled with her goopy eyes, gracie is one big mess. still happy and goofy, tho.
