it reminded me of norm (the dog) and gracie :D
I thought of them too. Does goofy Gracie need Norm for her guide dog?;)

It also reminded me of a story I read a while back in a magazine I get called Sheltie Pacesetter (yes, it's true! I subscribe to a magazine about shelties! :shh: ).

I've posted a picture of one of the shelties we had many years ago named Tess.

    BBE.jpg

Her coloring was a genetic defect called double merle. She was white with blue eyes. She was also born deaf. Many double merles are deaf or blind or both.

So I read this article about someone who had a double merle who was both deaf and blind. And what did they name him? TOMMY. Normally I love it when some of my interests overlap (The Who, dogs), but did they seriously have to name him Tommy? :fp:

I know it's wrong but I couldn't stop laughing about it. I kept thinking things like "That deaf dumb and blind dog sure plays a mean flyball." Or do they ever sing "Tommy can you hear me" to him? OK, I'll stop now. :shifty:

that is a big dog... and mine aren't exactly tiny!

More bad news with Gav this week, he's done a cruciate ligament and needs surgery :?
not scary the way the lump was but a pain, they keep telling me it never happens with greyhounds
    except that obviously it has!
The big thing worrying me - apart from the cost obviously, but will deal with that - is that he has to be on complete bedrest until and for two after his surgery. He's a large and active dog. If I'm not still neither is he, and locking him up doesn't seem likely to work either. I also have the problem of his sister and what to do with her when he's on bed rest - if I leave her in the backyard alone when I'm not here she'll stress and be upset, but I don't think she'll be much better if I have to shut them both in.
any ideas, advice, anyone had a similar problem?

good luck to you and gavin.

edit: gavin may not FEEL like doing anything..... maybe you won't need drugs ;)

Poor old Gav! Maybe you can hire a cage for him for as long as you need. Once he realises he is stuck in there he might settle down. Maybe see about getting him a seditive for the first couple of days while he gets used to it.
Get well get well soon we want you to get well  Oops thats the Seinfeld thread :fp:

Hi its your move...sorry to hear about Gav...my owner (idiot that he is) had a similar problem with me when I had to have a hernia removed a few years ago...

I doubt I can give you any real helpful advice sorry but my owner set up the laudry for me real nice...put a bed in there and my television and sterio...and I stayed in there and rested for a few days...it worked ok

and hey...I know this isnt a dating thread...but I like my men big...and greyhounds really float my boat...when Gav is back to his best maybe you could set us up

Lastly...I know this has been done before...please I hope not to cause any offence...but my owner is the biggest dog lover on the planet...he'd be happy to donate some cash to go toward the op if you want

Just want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has donated so far! You are all seriously amazing. <3
Sorry I haven't been around much lately I have been extremely busy!

But so far so good, there are 5 days left in the contest and Sammi was in 2nd place for a while but has now dropped to 6th. They added a '13th' spot on the calendar for the cover pet, so we're still eyeing first place but we are doin great regardless because of you fine people!!!

A good friend lost their dog yesterday and I wanted to post a picture of her here because she was one of the most awesome dogs I have ever known. I'll go through this thread and get some of the fabulous things people have posted when they lost pets and send them to my friend.

Her name is Emily and she was a rescue (puppies left in a cardboard box on the freeway) who had mange and barely any fur at all. One vet suggested they put her down when she was a puppy. My friend said no and Emily had 14+ wonderful years.

    RIP beautiful Emily.
