everyone would prefer to be in the sun (and I do agree that small amounts of sun are probably healthy) but who has time to go to the beach? I spend a lot of my free time outside in the process of things, but I find I never really get a "tan" unless I lie out on the beach. Plus, tanning requires wearing a bathing suit in public, which I personally have vowed never to do again.
hmm... 'knowing' NYPJ1, I'm guessing he only means the 5'7 supermodel looking blondes anyway... otherwise he'd probably tell you you've no right being on a beach.

I'm about as pale as you get and for a while use to use fake tan on my legs but now choose just to accept I'm pale and stay white year round and if it bothers any one to look at my pasty white legs that's their problem. Don't want to risk burning and skin cancer.

And for GS from friends have heard the tinted body moisturisers seem to work a lot better for the subtle colour than the actual fake tans. I know a few people that use Johnson's Holiday Skin

I used Johnsons for a while when it came out first... and it came out patchy :o just a bit... probably only enough for me to notice... but also enough for me to feel paranoid. I hear they've improved it since though.

... and similarly a person shouldn't feel they have to have a tan to wear a bathing suit to the beach, a skirt in the summer etc ... shouldn't have to feel ashamed of being pale and like you have to have a tan ...

weekends, unfortunately, are for exercising, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, and even working.

as for the bathing suit thing...spoken like a true guy. womens bathing suits don't even cover your legs. it's like walking around in your underwear, even if you wear a one-piece. there is NOWHERE to hide. and they're made of spandex!!! SPANDEX!!! I'd love it if my "bathing suit" were baggy shorts down to my knees! plus, it's far more acceptable for men to be overweight and go to the beach as such. and it's not just about being over weight, either. for a woman to go to the beach she has to shave/wax in certain areas that can cause her to break out and look even worse than having hair (that's been my problem with wearing a bathing suit since I was 12- I can't not shave, but if I do, I show up at the beach with 6 inches of disgusting red acne down my legs). Plus some women have cellulite or other skin issues body shapes they don't want to advertise...whatever. Putting on a bathing suit requires weeks of preparation, choosing the right one for your body (impossible, and the worst shopping trip of your life, every time, and for some reason, they cost about as much as a winter coat), spending $X on waxing every so often, etc.

haha sorry, but all that for a tan I'm going to cover with pants the next day...I don't think so.

u can get some color on your face and arms at the very least

well you get that when you're out running in the summer or just walking around. that's not what most people use self tanner for. self tanner is usually for pasty legs.

If you don't want to wear a bathing suit, don't. end of story. No one is forcing you to do so.

This thread is about picking a little self tanner to give a healthy glow. Please don't argue to the death about going to the beach or not.

I know people mentioned Jergens...I really like the express glow version...I get the med to tan version and it comes out really nice and natural and it's fast.

yes you do...but im saying if u enjoy the water and the beach and everything with it (besides the bathing suits) then throw on shorts and go relax

question have u been around this board for awhile? ive only recently noticed you posting but i was wondering if u checked in prior to that?

i ask because their was this one girl who was sooo negative about everything in life and she took alot of shit for it ..always negative
so i was wondering if u had seen any of her posts in the past ... because its not a healthy way to live your life and u cant be negative with every aspect of your life like that girl was

Yeah I just want a glow.. I can't see it coming out natural to try to go from see through white to bronze, so I am just looking to add a sign of life to my skin.. haha..

Of course while I am my vacation, I will pick up natural sun, so I don't need to go all out, just a glow.

yeah...you should try the lighter version of the express glow...it's good stuff. I think being very tan is passe'. I like the glowy, sunkissed look.

geez sorry, I was just trying to make the point that getting a tan can be a huge production and it's easier just to use self tanner-nypj1 was slamming us girls for using it. and what is disgusting?

Okay, so its mid summer, and I'm looking a lot like Casper the friendly ghost. I don't "go tanning", because I refuse to crisp myself into skin cancer, but I am looking for a self tanner that WILL NOT turn me oompa loompa orange.

I am scared to just go out and try something because I am so pale that if I turn orange it will be REALLY obvious.

I am going camping on a lake/beach in Michigan in a month and I do not want blind people with my fierce white skin.. please help!

i am also quite fair and i use l'oreal's sublime glow continuous mist every day, and every few days i use the sublime bronze mist (the bronze makes you a bit darker). the mist is very easy to use and it doesn't turn you orange. just remember to dab some moisturizer or oil on your rough spots first so they won;t absorb too much color (for me, that's my ankles and knees).

Weeks of perparation to put on a bathing suit??? Do you mean to shoot and an ad for Victoria's Secret bathing suit or just any girl going to the beach?? Waxing lasts for WEEKS(well for me) and well I don't mind a little stubble on my lower legs... I am not usually examined with a magnifying glass at the beach. THANK GOD!! ;) I don't go to the beach for a show. I go to swim in the ocean and relax on the sand. Lighten up a bit and enjoy life :)
