I'm not even married yet and my fiance's family has been causing all types of problems in our relationship.
Run! Run away!!
JK, just set some ground rules with them. Let them know not to treat you that way. Make your fiance back you up. Give them consequences if they dont.
If your fiance isnt willing to do this, you might want to take a look at your relationship.i knelt and emptied the mouth of every PUG around...

Yeah that's really what the problem is...These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -
If I get married, it will be cos I want to marry HIM, not his family. Don't get me wrong, I will make a big effort to fit in with them as it would make life easier in the long run... BUT if they're intolerable and simply something I must learn to accept without being able to speak up for myself  well that's obviously gonna be a big problem
My mother's a nutcase.... I would never inflict her on anybody. She will never get an introduction just for the sake of the introduction... possibly if there is a family situation where she and I must be in the same room, I will try my best to be civil. BUT I wouldn't expect any guy to bow down to her and do things her way... the marriage is between two people, not 3 or more. The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

When I tried to include the nutbags in the wedding plans, the mom refused to cut her guest list even though the venue wouldnt fit all the people, and insisted on inviting people she hadnt heard from in 5 years.
His father told us to "wait two more years and pay for the wedding yourself"
Intrestingly, they only paid for the things traditional for them to pay for, and I had to have the place send them a bill. They never offered one dime for the wedding, which 85 percent of the guests belonged to them. 50 percent of the budget was provided by me and hubby, the rest by my parents.. I'm a strong believer that if someone's insisting on something for my wedding that I don't want or they're not gonna pay for... well they're just gonna have to get over it. Everyone wants their own wedding, not somebody elses.

Believe me, I tried, but I was trying to make peace. I guess I also felt bad because we have a very small family, and they have a large extended family and friends in our town. My husband insisted he wanted what they wanted, then afterward denied it! (that was an issue)
I did finally cut her guest list myself. I went through and asked her what her realtionship was to each person, and Iif I had never heard of them or met them, they got cut.
Didnt do me much good though. She called them and invited them by phone.i knelt and emptied the mouth of every PUG around...

My husband is on the phone with his mother and I can make out the convo, since I hear his end, and she has now asked:
How the new guy at Josh's work was
How the cats are
How work is going for Josh
How selling his car is going
What car Josh would want next
HOW IS OUR NEW MATTRESS...
and then, how is Sarah??
In that order.. I'm so glad I fit right in after the mattress.. When he got to the mattress, I yelled out "THE MATTRESS IS GREAT, I'M FINE THANKS"
Ughhh!0 -
Oh Sarah, great thread for me!
Well my in-laws are very kind people. They would do almost anything for us if we needed it. They treat my daughter like gold!
With that said...................................Someimes my mother-in-law can be a little over the top. They live around the corner from us so when we first moved in 5 years ago she would do he pop in all the time! We had to bring that to a halt real quick. I told her I walk around the house naked all the time.
My wife and I break each others balls about our mothers.
Her mom knows it all, been there, done that. Any topic you discuss, she is the authority on it. Its funny b/c my father-in-law calls her on it. Its really funny.
Its hard sometimes, but I would not trade them in for the world.Get em a Body Bag Yeeeeeaaaaa!

If my mother asked me how my gf was doing every time she called I'd tell her to stop asking already, or assume the same until I tell her otherwise0 -
I'm of the opinion that in-laws are designed, by nature, to make you go crazy. I like my wife's family just fine, but they can be stubborn and a little irrational at times, and that drives me nuts. The same rings true for my wife with my family. She likes my mother, but some things that mom does drives her nuts. I guess we're still learning to deal with these issues (only married 2 months now), but I'm hoping they go away for the most part.0

I am SOOOO thankful my in-laws don't do that! We live across the street from my in-laws, and I was so worried that they were going to be over here all the time. It's really not like that at all, though...and the close proximity is AWESOME whenever we need a babysitter!0 -

saying all kinds of things that if another person said i wouldn't hold back from telling them off or maybe even more...who knows.
i told her next time i just can't sit back and listen to that.

ok....I think that image has burned on to my retina.believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

Dude, you'd shit your pants if you met them.
The first time I met them, we were watching TV and a Marines commerical came on and it had chicks in bikinis running on a beach and Pepe goes "that makes me wanna join the Marines!"
I almost shit myself!Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one.

like i said, my poor wife.
my sister is pretty much open about how she hates my wife. no real reason. mainly just cause that meant i couldnt hang around my sister so much. which wasnt really that big of a change because she lived 600 miles from me. my sister, and her husband (who i feel is like a brother) and my dad didnt want to come to my wedding because they didnt know if they could get off from work. which is lame because they take off from work all the time for various reasons. i didnt put any of my family in the wedding cause i couldnt trust them to not sabatoge it. my dad stayed about 10 minutes and left without saying good bye. my sister went and talked to all my friends and made up shit so they wouldnt like my wife. they've sort of settled down, because i told them that she comes first, especially after that.
still pisses me off.mean people suck!
but nice people sw****w0 -

I think it's up to the man to kind of let his family know to knock it off. I don't think that the women should have it out with them. But sometimes people have a hard time standing up to their family and they don't have the cojones. That's a problem in itself...These cuts are leaving creases.
