Anyone scared of haircuts?

I have this fear of haircuts, like some people are scared of the dentist. I have had a horrible experience in the past with really bad haircuts. I have really long hair. Its down to the middle of my back, and I haven't cut it since August, but I am getting it cut this evening!

I'm nervous but it needs to go. Its so long, and its going to be so hot this summer. I don't think I can deal with it. I love my long hair right after I dry it, it looks so nice, but then it gets scraggly looking in the wind and such, and I end up wearing it up every day..

I'm excited, but I'm scared I'm gonna be mad at myself!

Oh I have this too.. Really. My heart pounds as I'm sitting in the chair waiting and as soon as I see the scissors I feel sick... My hair is halfway down my back now and I have to tie it up most days, but I don't even like having the ends trimmed :(

    no don't say that!!!!!!

dude, having long hair is nice, and its pretty and stuff, but in the summer? Ugh!! I'll be outside all day every day at work, and I just can't deal with my hair. Plus I don't have A/C and trying to blow dry my hair for 30 mins is torture!
  • I used be afraid of hair cuts sort of. Like I wasn't afraid of having my super long hair cut straight across like 1 or twice to get the nasty dead stuff off, but I was afraid of doing anything else. I didn't want to get layers or something and end up looking like a news anchor. I NEVER colored my hair, ever. and I didn't want to look like I was purposely trying to have pretty hair (grunge habits die hard).

now I've got slightly layered shoulder length hair (it keeps getting shorter and shorter, but I think I'm going to go back to longer) with red and yellow stripes. who knew. once you do it once it's easier. you just have to go to GOOD stylist that has good recommendations/reviews, and trust that they know more about hair than you do.

Hahaha.. a news anchor.. I love that. The place I go, is good, and they cut my hair in August.. haha.. and I liked it. I just wanted to grow my hair out, and it grew, and now I want to cut it. The grass is always greener... eh?

I'm not sure I want it short, but medium length sometimes looks odd.. I'll have to look at pictures! haha..

ok, but if you love it the way it is, maybe you should leave it. So what if you have to put it up everyday? At least you have the choice to put it up or wear it down. And what if you get a scissor-happy hairdresser and they hack it all off and it looks really bad? Then what? I would leave it if I were you. I'm just saying....

well this is where the stylist comes in as well, they have an idea of what will look good. I always say something like "i was thinking of going shorter, do you think that will work?"

listen to me, like I do crazy drastic things to my hair. the cut always looks the same!

my hair changed on it's on though. used to be ringlet curly, now it's straight with some waves. I want the ringlets back.

or the other option is to just get a trim, it's not all or nothing. you can cut off the stuff that's getting heavy and nasty and still have long hair.

yeah I've requested trims before and came out looking like I was joining the army. There are bad hair stylists out there. But I don't think she wants a trim. She wants to take quite a bit off for the summer.

I hate haircuts purely because my hair looks stupid when it's short, then tufts form after a few weeks. Once the tuft phase is over it's all good until it looks too messy and I need another haircut.

The worst bit is I look really young with short hair, and everyone feels the need to remind me. Even people I've known for years say "Oh... you look younger" EVERY TIME I get my haircut. Gets a tad bit annoying, it's like people don't think I ever look in the mirror! Fat people are never told they're fat! Short people are never told they're short! But apparently I'm oblivious to how I look. grrrrr

Okay, so I just dried my hair after my shower (this is way before the haircut) and I panicked about cutting it short so I think I am going to have her take like 2 inches off the ends and clean up the layers. If I were to cut it short, that would be 8-9 inches off, and if I hate it, that will take forever to grow back out, so I am going to wuss out and keep it long for now, but get a "trim"

    haha.. I'm such a haircut-phob!

I'm not scared of haircuts.. I just don't like them. cause they make my hair shorter.

    :D

I've got lonnng hair (easily down to my lower back) and obviously I have to cut the ends quite regularly but I don't like it.

though my hair can be a pain, especially in the summer, I still like it. I've got it tied up most of the time (work etc, and I live in a very windy city) but I wouldn't cut it. :)

  • ah..cmon..just chop it off! One thing about hair is that it grows back.

    Go for it :)

Im not afraid of the concept of going to the barber, but I havent cut my hair in a looong time, about a year. And my hair still isnt as long as id like. So im araid that my hair will get cut by an evil barber, or by and evil friend (and I have had a friend who threatend to cut it  ) but yea even though all the other guys have short hair Ive always liked having long hair, and was very miserable when I had to have my hair short for 2 whole fuking years!

yeah but what if this person's idea of a trim is 6 inches? You should just leave it the way it is. You can't trust someone with your hair. Especially when it's nice and long like that....

you haven't cut it AT ALL in a year?

wondering cause when you're growing your hair out, it's actually good to cut off the tips every now and then, to get rid of possible split ends and stuff. :)

Oh I can't leave it.. it needs a trim.. the ends are split and frayed, and its getting messy looking. I will tell them 1.5-2 inches.. I've learned that you don't tell them a trim, that makes them go run with it. If I never trusted anyone again, I'd have hair down to the floor with 5 feet of split ends. My hair grows extremely fast (I have to do a color touch up every 3 weeks) so 2 inches will be back by july/august, just healthier.

lol, well yeah I suppose you need to trust someone with it. But that's a good idea not avoid using the word 'trim'. Everyone has their own definition. Hope you're happy with your haircut. Let us know how it goes. :)

    Good Luck.

I often procrastinate getting my hair cut, 'cause I can never find anybody to do it right. It seems most stylists are afraid of cutting my hair. They always want to keep it longer and with fewer layers than I prefer.
I try to assure them that it will grow back and I actually want what I'm asking for, but they always stop and tell me it looks good how they've cut it.
What's funny is this happens across the board price wise. *shrugs shoulder*
    I don't get it.

Side note: I think most men are afraid of their lady loves getting hair cuts as it has been demonstrated on several threads on this board. :p

Haha must be a girl thing.

I love haircuts and usually get one every 6 weeks. Not sure how this is related but I seem to get headaches more often when my hair is longer than I usually keep them.

I used to get so worked up about haircuts that I'd wind up with a migraine by the end of it. :D I'm not kidding! I had some BAD experiences with haircuts when I was a kid, and it scarred me for life. Then, in my early 20s, I suddenly became pretty relaxed about it. I don't know what changed, but I think it might be the fact that I realized that my hair seems to grow ridiculously fast, lol.

I will say that it took me forever to get up the nerve to try someone new out here. I would just plan my haircuts around trips home to visit my mom, and the girl who cut it while I was in college would do it. But now I've found a really good person out here and she's relatively cheap, so I'm happy! :)

so this is a picture of my hair pre-hair cut: (in december)

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/14915606@N07/2146016089/

and this is how I'd like it cut:

    http://www.lauren-conrad.net/coppermine/albums/hawaii/normal_Lauren_Conrad-Hawaiian_Tropic_Zone_Heats_Up_Las_Vegas_Strip_07.jpg

Not horribly drastic.. I mean I already part my hair on the side, and have very long bangs that come across.. its just much shorter then it is now.. is grown maybe 2 inches since december...

why is this so hard?! ugh! being a girl is so stupid.
