Love for Pilates

I need to feel like I'm doing something like sweating my ass off or feeling burn in my muscles. I know people claim you can get this from pilates, but as I said, I'm stupid on this stuff. All I remember was lying on the floor trying to locate some area of my abdomen that I was supposed to "contract as if I were urinating." Since I couldn't find this area, it was more like just lying on the floor for me.
All I know, is I feel my abs burning like hell during Pilates, and that makes me just push it further and further.
We only lay on the floor for like 30 seconds and try to pull everything into our core. Did you not feel like you were burning to pieces when they had you keep your shoulder blades and upper back off the floor and have your legs straight out in a 45 degree angle from the floor? You either went to a real crappy class, or you have abs of steel.
All I know is that my classes don't feel like a single wasted moment. I felt like Yoga was a bit on the wasted side, but Pilates makes me feel like I am going to have a 6 pack the moment I leave class (IF ONLY!)0 -
I def. feel the burn when Im doing those abdominal exercises. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

oh right, pulling everything into the core! that's what I can't do. I can't do the like, conceptual stuff (I also have the same problem with yoga). But also I haven't tried this for maybe five years...I think the way it is done in classes now is different-a few years ago it was very like "picture this" and "image that" kind of thing. (spinning was really like that too in the beginning-it has changed considerably).
I went to a few different classes, most of it was on the floor I think.
to me, it felt like I do a lot of ab work anyway, so it was just like a more...confusing way to do the same thing.
I think with pilates you really have to "get" it (as you seem to) in order for it to be useful. the getting it probably comes with time, and as I said, that's what I don't have patience for.0 -

so like how is pilates more of a burn than other abdominal routines?
like the one graysaturday described with you arms and back off the floor and your legs at 45 degrees- I think I do that anyway (if I'm picturing the same thing) so how does it differ in pilates?0 -

I guess it differs from traditional crunches, where you have our hands behind your head that there is more emphasis on using your core. I know when Im doing a long set of scissors or other exercises with my shoulders off the ground I def. feel my abs working. These cuts are leaving creases. Oh I used to do the scissors thing too. maybe I've been doing pilates all along???
(I've never done crunches with my hands behind my head too?? I usually put them on my stomach?)0 -

well yeah there are so many variations on crunches..I guess with pilates it's more about using your core to power the movements...Im not so good describing it...I like doing it though. I know doing crunches on a fitness ball is better then on the ground because it's more challenging. These cuts are leaving creases. I actually use one of those inflatable disks- so you get resistance on both sides of the crunch, which is like a ball effect as well. I've never taken to the swiss balls though. I used to do this awesome reverse crunch on them but at the gym I'm at now there's nothing to hold on to behind my head. I also used to do my upperbody strength training on them in order to work my core simultaneously, but I wasn't really feeling it was working as well as predicted.0 -
I'd love to take a class. I get bored and lose motivation when doing a dvd. Maybe once I start working I'll join a gym...0

I'm the same way, can't work out at home at all.
plus with a dvd, you never really know if you're doing something right, you don't have an instructor or even a mirror.0 -
Im the opposite, I don't like gyms..I like exercising in solitude..it's like a private thing for me...These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0
