I know this probably belongs in the tech. forum but I figured more people would see it here.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would be very appreciated.
Thank you!

and definitely get an external to back up all your files.
thats what i did, i have hardly anything saved on my computer and it runs alot better.
lol..I was waiting for the "get a mac" reply..:p
yeah i got the low memory message again..i go through this everytime i turn my computer on. but I think i may get a external harddrive. I just dont want to spend a lot on that. Do they get connected to a usb port?...I really don't know how those work. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -

hell that's good enough for me.
I know when I get a new comp I will not have norton...I think that is causing a lot of probs. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -
Jen, is it Norton with the new back up component to the package? Because we updated to that recently and we've had no end of trouble with it. Even spent a great deal of time on the phone to India and they still couldn't fix it.
What you're describing with the memory low business, well we had that and it's crap. Utter crap. I even spent a great deal of time deleting files and stuff and it continued.
Not that long ago I used some Windows wizard to run a back up, apparently you can only do it once but it seems to have shut Norton up for the time being.NOPE!!!

They do connect USB but, does your computer have USB 2.0? Not sure how well external hard drives work unless you have the 2.0 ports. Desktops are pretty cheap nowadays....4th of july is coming up. Lots of places should have sales!
There are many things you can do to your computer to bump up your performance but some just cost money and in the long run you'd be better off with a basic, not top of the line, new one.bugs in the way...I feel about you

yeah im pretty sure they aren't 2.0...i remember someone tried to plug in their mp3 player into it and it wouldn't even recognize it. It is apparently old..it's 5 years old but you would think it's older. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -

I have 2006 Norton...it's a pain though...sometimes there is an envelope on the bottom of my screen that tells me to download an update to my liveupdate software..frankly with how this computer is acting i really am afraid of trying to do that. I wish i could get rid of it but I already paid for a subscription that doesn't expire until next year. But I think it's the reason I get the low memory message. Im dreading when I have to dl new virus definitions cuz that always takes forever..because it usually give me an error message :(These cuts are leaving creases. I had that too, the little icon on the bottom right on the footer. It would pop up saying live updates all the time. I doubt very much your memory is low though. I got that message all the time too and there's NO WAY I've managed to fill up this computers memory. I'm really struggling to remember what we did to fix it. I think the guy in India got rid of it for me while we were have those link up sessions when we got the new package.
I'd had Norton for years you know and never any trouble but this past 18 months I'm completely over them. Can you run a scan maybe? See what it spits up?NOPE!!!

I do hate it and I think all my negativity is making it want to piss me off more!
So yeah..I was investigating PC mover because my number 1 concern is how I would move all my files, settings, etc to a new computer. Evidently you need usb 2.0 to use the thing.....am I totally screwed? These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -

No...I think there's software that will help, but honetsly, i've used 2.0 on ports not totally compatible, it's just suuuuuuper slow. Do you have a dvd burner? That's another good way to back stuff up.
If you really don't want to get a new PC, i'd suggest backing up your data and reinstalling completely on your current machine. That will help A LOT. If you still have your XP disks and key....bugs in the way...I feel about you

yeah I just have a cd burner...Well then there is hope the PC mover may work. I know sometimes things are backwards compatible.

I hope it does work. Slow is better than nothing.....and i know how horrid it is to lose your data. I've learned the hard way!bugs in the way...I feel about you

If your CPU is that old, it's probably time for a new one. Computer years are like "dog years". 5 years is more like 35 years. Your hard drive is probably only 40GB and with all the stuff you have on it that's why your getting that message.I'll ride the wave where it takes me.0 -
First - tell us how big hard disc do You have? How many giga bytes?
Anyway, I'm not sure if Your computer needs more ROM, probably U have not enough RAM. How much RAM has Your computer?
Can You write what is really written about memory? What is the announcement, which you see?
And - check how many application have U got turned on with started computer. Have You got only Norton 2006? what about any spyware? Or any other security programm?
Anyway - it's true. Norton needs huge RAM to work- think about changing Your antivirus. What about Kaspersky, for example? As i know is one of best of 2007 and it)
Not 10c member? Have sth to say? write to me - I'll put it on the forum

Im sure it's the size of my hard drive. It's not even a gig...The next time I see the message I will write it. It keeps saying Im very low. It's a laptop so I don't think I can expand the memory. It's a Dell Inspiron 2650.
I just have norton 2006...It seems all my problems began with that giving me trouble. Im not the most computer techy person..so this stuff is kind of freaking me out. :(.halszka123 wrote:First - tell us how big hard disc do You have? How many giga bytes?
