    im no scientist but we study some wild stuff in environmental science class.

    i'd say this..
    i am guessing they take the gene from a grape
    and put it in with some gene from an apple.
    the ones i have ate were a dull red color, not bright like a red delicious.
    and um,, maybe it is like...
    like cross breeding plants or grafting plants.
    something like this..

    i am going off track a bit here
    but it's totally wild how ppl have
    created a new food or a new concept
    to an old food
    the grapple thing
    reminded me of this..

    in Japan they have figured out how
    to grow square water melons.
    can anyone guess how they do that, and why they do that?

    Ah...well I would never think to combine the two. I would love to try one, but Im sure I wouldn't find them around here.

    lordy..that is too much work...lol...That's funny cuz the other day after I ate a apple I was looking at the seeds. If you plant one..will you a tree grow or do you have to do all kinds of stuff to it. I know that sounds like a dumb question. :)

    I suppose it could grow but it probably wont.

    you're on it mr. cutback.
    they grow water melons in square boxes which in turn forms the water melon into a square rather than the traditional rounded/oval shaped water melon.
    they say the melons can be shipped easier and stored in a refrigerator better.
    weird deal, i personally don't give a hoot if my water melon is oval shaped and was shipped the same way they always been.

    HONEY CRISP!!

    Unfortunately, they're not in season. When they were, I ate about four a day. Unbelievably yummy.

    For now, I get by with Gala, followed by Pink Lady's.

    There is no question for me that the best apples are McIntosh apples. Absolutely love them!
