  • Higher paying job, plus gonna try and play poker part-time...

Any thoughts? Anyone lived there before?

I've been once this past summer, had a great time, and I am just sick and tired of life on the east coast...

imo, a vacation is not a good gauge of whether a place is livable. i have relatives who moved there from nyc years ago, more out of desperation than anything else (they had lost their jobs, rents were too high, etc). but i wouldn't recommend the place, based on their experiences. there's a good amt of gang activity, there's alot of cultural/racial tension, the population tends to be of the low-tooth-count variety... in other words, alot like any urban city, plus unbefreakinlievable HEAT in summer. most days over 100 degrees. one of my cousins' kids passed out waiting for the school bus once.

    good luck! :D

one of my closest friends lived out there for 2 yrs with an ex fiancee. He hated it. It's like 100 degrees in the shade in the summertime.

I have been there several times. It's nice for a vacation but I wouldn't want to live there either.

Sounds good except for the poker part. The real poker players will eat your lunch. Be careful.

Not to be a gloomy gus, but make sure you have a good reserve stashed away for those times when the cards don't go your way.

I just saw that today when I got home from work - not sure yet. I will be there by June/July (in time for the WSOP), but I wasn't planning on moving until May. It depends on a few factors, but if it is at all possible, you better believe I will do my best to try. Gonna have to make some friends out there fast, cause I won't know anyone to go with...

Well, I'm not playing poker full-time - probably just weekends. And I have a bankroll management system that I have used online for 2 years now, and it has worked smoothly.

very cool. My girlfriend has a medical conference this weekend, and there is a casino right next door. She was worried that I wouldn't have anything to do while she was in her conference!

My last time in LV was 2003 for PJ!

I try to stay away from my poisons ($100 hands of blackjack!)

$100 PER HAND?? Damn...$3/6 NL Hold'em is high for me

Hence the distance I keep. I play $2/4 or $3/6...since I get too eager to pay to see the flop even if my hole cards suck, I know not to play expensive games.
