Chiqui, I finally saw Edward Scissorhands the other night on TV. I can see why people liked that movie.

This movie was even better than I expected. :)

The way it looked combined with the great cast and the music...it was completely successful I thought! :D

Saw it last night and pretty much thought it was terrible. For a Tim Burton movie there was very little imagination, just a lot of singing. It didn't look like a Tim Burton movie except for Depp looking like a grown up Edward Scissorhands. Johnny Depp is a great actor but he really needs to start spreading out a bit. This was the same character he always plays now, except he sings. The only part I enjoyed was the bit role Sascha Baron Cohen had. Save your money and just wait for the DVD.
Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

You do know it was based on a Broadway musical, right?

Our small city (30 000) theater isn't getting it. It's horribly uncool.

We're having to wait for it too, which totally sucks - its one of my favorite musicals and I know all the words!
    R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.
    R.i.p. My Dad - May 28, 2007
    R.i.p. Black Tail (cat) - Sept. 20, 2008

Jane, you'll probably like it. I was surprised at how well they managed with the music. :)

  • I am looking forward to seeing this this film, but I'm a little nervous, as I've heard so many negative reviews from people I know. Granted, it's a musical, which will turn many off to begin with, and it involves Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter, so will be a little offbeat. It's definitely not a film for everyone. I hope I enjoy it!
No time to be void or save up on life. You got to spend it all.

"Haven't you got poet, or something like that?"

"No, y'see, the trouble with poet is -how do you know it's deceased?"

(My favorite part is "A little Priest")

I have seen this movie 3 times now...it is SO good! I don't even mind that they cut a little bit out of the original musical!

  • Just watched it last night. Amazing film! I thought the songs, the atmosphere, and the acting were all perfect for the movie. It just oozed Tim Burtoness all over the place. I'm gonna get me the soundtrack and buy the flick when it hits DVD for sure. It totally deserves all the praise its been getting.

I highly suggest watching the original musical before seeing the new Johnny Depp movie. Yeah, it is ok, but the original musical with Angela Landsbury is so much better.

***its too bad people cant come up with original ideas anymore, although I do find Tim Burton's work amazing.***

Shit I hadn't realised it was a musical!!
It starts here next weekend.I'm really lucky I have a cinema at the bottom of my street and was planning to go see it with a group of friends. It looks visually stunning, but not sure about the musical part. Will probably go anyway and make my mind up then.

    really? why?

doesn't the symbiotic art process of gothic victoriana come across very well in modern day US.. did the movie not contain pathos, or faux-hubris? or was the singing a bit shit?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

    Shut up you wanker. :D
The singing is poxy, singing in films is poxy, since Chity Chitty Bang Bang, it's been poxy, and pointless. Films are for acting, not singing....blah!
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

Trust me, the musical side of the movie adds quite a bit to the films character. You can't go wrong with a horror-musical. My case in point: Evil Dead, the musical. Absolutely fantastic.

That is the narrowest, most small minded view of film I've ver had the misfortune to read.

Well I was pretty drunk at the time of posting :p Hard to detect sarcasm at 5 in the morning ;).
Still though, there have been some great musicals over the years. Too many people discount lots of films just because there's singing. I think it's an awful way to look at things.
