Unfortunately, I'm guilty of tossing my cigarettes out of the window. Although, when its as blatant as a fast food bag or any type of container that should be obvious to anyone that its being left on the ground should be dragged out and shot. I mean, a garbage can probably is a few feet away from you if you just look. It's impossible to NOT realize a big old bag full of garbage just fell out of your car or your hand... maybe something smaller like a piece of plastic when you open the door but a bag? I don't know... I'm rambling.

Definitely a selfish act. When I see this happen, I write down the license plate and car make then call it in. I don't know if they ever do anything about it, but it makes me feel better.

As you should I don't mind throwing out an apple core or something but I still wouldn't throw it out my car window.
Not totally on topic as nobody drives their car in the ocean(unless you are living a Pixies song ) but I digress. They did a clean up of Canada's shores and they gathered 100, 000 kilos of GARBAGE. Obscene. The largest offender was cigarette butts. Disgusting.

I would like for you to see how long you cigerettes linger around compared to other kinds of garbage. It would probably change your mind pretty quick, unless you are just one of those people that the rules just don't apply to you, but you can still judge others when they are doing THE EXACT SAME THING!!

i actually saw an article in the paper about a year ago that said cig butts don't really take that long to break down and disintegrate. i don't remember how long it said, but when i saw it i was pretty surprised.

It's $200 fine in Washington DC. I've noticed on the Balt-Wash Parkway people through trash all this parkway which is a beautiful drive. However idiotic people throw trash there like it's there neighbor's back yard. They wouldn't want to trash their own yard that way.
One good thing once a month the Parkway is cleaned with bags and bags of built up trash over a month's time.
Unfortunately it only lasts one week staying somewhat clean.

I think that you're right that it is... garbage but I admitted that I was guilty of it already ALTHOUGH as ignorant as it may come across, I don't smoke nearly as much to cause as much damage to nature let alone a city as plastic bags, etc. would do. That's just my opinion... a butt will vanish long before something as any bag or food wrapping may. And don't pull this "rules don't apply to you" nonsense.
