  • did they say what kind of heart failure?
    how old is he?
do you know what his lvef (left ventricular ejection fraction) is?
i can probably send you some stuff to read about it, but if he's young do they know whats possibly causing it?

  • are they doing heart surgery or something else?

if he's young he's got good chances and management with drugs later on is possbile. it really depends on what surgery and why. if he has kidney failure it could all depend on why. if the heart failure causes the kidney failure then the fixing the heart failure might make the kidneys work. if it is failure of the kidneys causing the heart failure and they cant get the kidneys to work, then he might need to be put on dialysis or kidney transplant. those are all worse case scenario's.

does he live away from you?

Just with a quick web search, I can't find anything with both. Do they seem more concerned with the kidneys?

I hope they get you some results soon. Take care.

  • the reason you would see problems with the kidneys and the heart is this.

if the heart isnt working as well as it should then the blood backs up and blood pressure goes up. bloodflow to the kidney's goes down. kidneys regulate blood pressure so if they see a drop in blood pressure they release stuff to raise blood pressure and they also can't get rid of fluids so then the body swells (legs, arms etc) and blood pressure goes higher putting pressure on the heart. you can give stuff you lower blood pressure and excrete the fluid from the kidneys. if its the kidneys causing the heart failure its basically the same reason but at a different part of the cycle. there is other stuff that goes on so the surgery might say more about what they think it is.
your boyfriend will be in our prayers. but i want you to know there is usually lots of stuff they can do for heart failure patients. its a tough thing to go thru and hopefully you and him have lots of friends and family to support you.

I'm sorry about your boyfriend, but it seems like the doctor is going to take some biopsies just to be sure nothing else is going on. He's a young guy so he will be all right, ok? He's in my prayers!!

Thanks for the very helpful info. I can't speak for eddie's Tone rocks, but having some of the hows and whys would be very comforting to me in this type of situation.

my grandpa died from heart/kidney failure.

he was also 88 years old so he had no chance of recovery.

actually, the congestive heart failure was caused by the meds he was taking to help with the kidney failure.

best of wishes to you and your bf...

    Esther's here and she's sick?

hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks

my best to you both...hang in there. he should do okay.

once they do the biopsies it usually doesn't take very long to get the results to find out what's causing the kidney failure.

    good info here.

best wishes eddiestonerocks!!! our hearts are with you and your bf.

and never be afraid or shy to ask the doctors to explain these kind of things to you. Ask what are the possible causes and treatments, best and worse case scenarios. Ask them to explain it to you in laymans terms if you dont understand, but that can sometimes be too generic of an answer. they are more likely to know how to explain the possibilities in scientific terms...if so...ask them to write down some key words or conditions so that you could go look up and learn.

have they already run dialysis on him to remove the build up of toxins? Or is it more of a fluid retention problem (this would lead to high blood pressure and stress on the heart)....is he on Lasik or some other diuretic (this would make him pee a lot thus reducing fluid volumes and blood pressure to ease the stress on the heart)?

    be sound my friend.

I had heart failure. I don't really know much about it though as it was about 33 years ago. No need for meds since then, and I'm fit as a fiddle.

  • Hi ETR...

If he has something wrong with his kidneys, it puts great pressure on the heart because of excess fluid and toxins in the body. This leads to congestive heart failure.

    What are his symptoms?

  • My thoughts go out to you and your boyfriend. I hope it all goes well. My mum had/has congestive heart failure. For her surgery was not an option as she has a whole host of issues and she came out of that episode ok. All the best.

ETR the correlation between kidney disease and heart disease is extremely high. Please do not be misguided by misinformation. Here is a link that will help you and your boyfriend. I hope he is doing better and that his doctors are able to give you some answers soon. :)
