Funny that you posted this.. I had Indian food for the first time last night..

I hate to be the Debbie Downer in this thread, but I didn't like it all all. Maybe you have to grow up with it though. I don't know.

I couldn't stop burping all night after the meal, which didn't help me like the taste any better.

nah, I agree. i'm not a big fan.

although i will admit that i've only tried it a couple of times.. so maybe i just picked the wrong places.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

We have a really good place we go to for lunch with work. Maybe i'll talk some folks into going today

I love everything they make! Their Vegitarian dishes are wonderful The Tandoir Chicken, Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala is great, all the other chicken and goat dishes i don't know what they are called are very good too!

I never had indian food until about 5 years ago but it is a fav of mine now

Indian food is a bit spicy for my taste, but I have to admit, they have a ton of vegetarian options. The Indian restaurant I went to a few months ago wasn't bad at all, and I think I'll definitely go back.

i love indian food. there is a great place near my house that i have been eating at for basically my whole life. they use a lot of spices in everything which is what gives it so much flavor and heat. its definitely not for everyone, but if you find a good place, its great.

My boss didn't make it spicy at all (which is a shame!) because it was made for a bunch of Kindergarteners. I gave it to the 2 year old for lunch yesterday and she LOOOOOOOOOVED it!! She said, "more ricey Mer-Mer"! AWWW :D She's got Indian in her blood...literally.

Although I've never had Indian food in London, if you haven't tried Copper Chimney (e. 28th between Park and Lex) in NYC, do so asap! Having eaten at numerous Indian restaurants throughout the city this one has reigned supreme! It was taken out of Zagat two years ago due to lack of survey response which is just fine by me!
    thanks for the tip mooks
perhaps I will give it a try

funny I lived on 28th and third for 15 years and never tried any of those places, well except curry in a hurry ;)

Just don't go to Curry in a Hurry.
We ate there simply because that is one of the funniest names for a restaurant ever. It was kinda dirty. :o And the food tasted old.
I have found that any Indian joint with a sitar player in the window is good.

    Oops....you already did.
    How funny is that????

Yeah tried it a couple of times, not too bad, but not too good. Always during the dinner rush. Its funny how they have a five star plaque on the outside of the restaurant. :D

All of those places, except the baluccis chains, are kinda dirty! :p

Never been a huge Indian food fan, I like spicy food and the Indian flavors, but everything is so, I dunno, saucy? I prefer Japanese (go figure) and Thai curry as well.

It sucks because it seems so healthy but then WA-BAM! there it is, stuck to your hips.
    It ain't fair.

I don't think everything uses ghee. :) The best thing is to avoid anything with cream in it, the thicker massala sauces.. which is fine for me as I don't really like em. I'd rather have a gravy-style curry sauce, personally.

In fact (and you'll have to check this out and get a second opinion) but I don't think South Indian food uses ghee at all, but oil - I don't think they like ghee. Even then, I think they're quite health-conscious and only use a little of it.

All I know is the spicier the better. I'm not satisfied until I can see through time.

I haven't tried Curry in a hurry, but have heard two things about it:

It's not good and apparently it's Russel Simmons favorite restaurant.

  • I've never heard of Curry in a hurry but the name puts me off already!

I love indian food of course - I usually get the chicken Biryani myself - a very underrated dish imo! Best place for me is Masala Zone but it's my life's ambition to go to Veeraswamy one day, even though it's ridiculously expensive!

In Oxford there's a great buffet restaurant called the Mirch Masala which has the most delicious food ever! My mouth is watering just thinking about it now!

WIthout wishing to get political about this but a lot of those recipes are actually indian, not pakistani. It's typical for pakistanis to not give india any credit! *kisses teeth*

I'm half-Indian and I can't handle Indian food. Even the "dumbed down" food is too spicy for me most of the time. I need about 5 chapati and/or naan for about 3 tablespoons of chana. :p Pathetic! I really want to like it, but my oral cavity and innards are staunchly against an Indian food invasion.

    *sigh*

At least I have the flatbreads.

there was a delivery place at home where you can get indian and/or chinese and/or italian... they only used fresh organic produce and didn't use MSG. It was fantastic! The Italian part wasn't so good though :o

I can't eat spicy food :( but I love korma and tikka massala... what other indian dishes aren't so spicy?

  • PS here's a tip if you accidently bite into a chili seed or have a too-hot dish - eat a spoonful of sugar! It calms down the agony in seconds. Don't gulp down cold water it just extends the pain lol.
