Ok...so the randomest thing just hapepened. Apparently the ghosts of the executed Chinese prisoners are calling to me. My roommate got home a few minutes ago and I was telling her about Bodies and that I wanted to see it whilst in NYC. She said, "NO FREAKING WAY! Go look on the table". She brought the book thingy home today. Apparently she was at her friend's house and saw it and asked to borrow it to look at.

I agree. It was cool though...the way they displayed the bodies doing various activities and showing what the muscles would look like when doing them. I really remember the gymnast on the rings!
I know! I could just stand there for an hour looking at one exhibit!
Did your exhibit have the whole blood system for a chicken in the shape of a friggin chicken? For some reason, that just tripped me out. A chicken.
I would like to see a video or something on how they made those bodies and shaped them. It seems so gross, but I'm curious.

I think mine was a cat....or maybe it was a chicken. I have a bad memory and this was 3 years ago!
my ex bought the book at the gift shop. He'd sit and look at the book all the time, to tell u the truth that freaked me out a bit!
I loved the slices of the body where you could pull them out and see section by section:D

Good thing he's your ex.
You know, I swear ours was a chicken, but it might have been a cat. My memory is shit.
Don't miss this if it come anywhere near you! A great exhibit....very interesting. I have gone to a few different ones, the Germans do a much better job in the preservation and action display department. The Chinese have some interesting ways to display, like one body holding hands with itself, one side is the muscle, the other the skeletal. Cool ideas in both exhibits. Amazing they can do the circulatory system on its own. Its just mind blowing.
When I first heard of this years ago I wanted to donate my body, but I had to have it shipped to Germany, like the day I expired. It was too expensive!
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!
I've heard of this and seen a couple of pictures online. I have NO desire to see bodies with muscles and organs exposed. I do not ever watch surgery on TV either.

Yeah I went to the one at the Sea Port in NYC a couple of months ago. It was really creepy at first. No smell, but looking at the human body as basically a steak was disturbing at first.
Amazing to see the break up of the different systems of the body!
The only area you may have a sensitivity to (and they warn you in advance) is the fetus area and women who were pregnant. My wife found this extremely fascinating but it definately is not for everyone.
If you look at it in more of an inquisitive frame of mind, you'll be fine.
If you think of them as real humans, it might get to you....
I think if you view them as real humans, it 'won't' get to you.
I mean, that is what we all look like.
And yes, a lot of them are Chinese prisoners. Were. http://www.prxi.com/nycrefunds/
I really wanted to see this when it first came out but no one wanted to go with me. Now that I am studying in the medical field, I feel it is mandatory that I go. I have become absolutely fascinated with the human body and the way we work. Maybe I can convince my school to send us on a field trip.

And I don't feel right when you're gone away

Yeah I wanted to go down to the seaport since I've never been down there and that's when I saw that Bodies is there.
You're right about the pregnant woman and fetus...that DOES freak me out. ALOT. That's disturbing.

I will never forget these french fries I had down at the seaport YEARS ago with my Dad. It was the first time I ever had battered fries...you know the ones with the coating on them?? They were heaven.
That part of NYC is so beautiful. The architecture is really wild.
Oh and there is a building down there that supposedly George Washington slept in. It is a restaurant. My Dad and I ate there once too. There is a plaque outside.

I forgot about that!
haha
We used to hang out a lot. I mean, we still do but he used to take me into the city once a year to go to the Christmas Spectacular and take me to FAO Scwartz and out to a nice dinner. He worked for IBM and they made the trip every year. Some of my best memories.
And while you are down there, walk over the Bkln Bridge. So amazing.

Eh...truthfully I've never been that into bridges.

Don't go over the bridge. It was merely a suggestion.
Lemme know when you are going to the exhibit while you are here. I would love to go with you. Unless, you know..you have other company.
I truly am so fascinated with the human body right now. We are doing the systems in one of my classes. And it is bugging me out! Just amazing.

I thought it was interesting and i would suggest it to anyone. Very facinating and educating.
The only part that i did not enjoy was the part with the baby fetus. That was a little much for me to see.

That is the ONLY reason to go to the Seaport. I worked across the street from there for 2 years and would travel to get away from it.
P.S. My dad wants to hang out with you.
I'm thinking it's probably like the East Coast version of Santa Monica pier(without the rides)?
haha
