I tried holding down the shift key and nothing came up. I'm guessing she doesn't have the 7.6 version then?

I am going to try this myself at home tonight. I have me, wife and daughters dueling ipods. Wife just got a new one and I mistakenly uploaded all of my 10 yo's tunes to it--Gwen Stefani, Sara Barelli, the entire Hairspray soundtrack--ay yai yai!

AmentsChick--maybe you need to upgrade to the newest version of Itunes. Its free and fast, althoguh they seem to come out with a new version every other week.

  • Excuse me, meanie. I never claimed to be computer savvy.
You don't have to be computer savvy to know how an iPod works. I figure that if a person owns one they should at least know how it works. It's really not that difficult to know what syncing up a device means. Maybe you should just stick with a CD Walkman. It's almost impossible to not know how that works.

I hope you're not talking about me because I'm not a 'dude' and I was being rude, just honest.

While you had iTunes open why didn't you just check to see what version it was or do you not know how to do that either? Just in case you don't; click on help in the menu bar and then click on about. If it's not the 7.6 version you can update it for free.

However you re-load your music onto whomever's computer, just be sure to back it up this time. (I once lost a hard drive with all my music and pictures on it and hadn't backed it up. Thankfully I was able to pull it off my iPod, but I don't think you have that option anymore.) If it were me though, I would first try the other poster's suggestion of checking whether you can still use your original hard drive - especially if you had a lot of music on it.
